dihartnell Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 hello everyone, i'm new here. here are my specs: -Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G -C2D E8500 -2GB DDRII OCZ Platinum i would like to overclock my CPU, but unfortunately i know absolutely nothing about overclocking. could you suggest me some guide for a real rookies like me? is it possible to overclock my CPU with stock cooler? what's the chance that i could destroy my CPU? Welcome FCZ. This earlier forum link covers someone elses experience using . http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=77889 Also here is a general guide to overclocking P35 mobos http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/gigabyte-x...ng-guide-26112/ I would recomend getting too carried away with a stock cooler for overclocking. They just aren't up to the job. Get yourself a good aftermarket cooler like a Prolimatech Megahelems and aftermarket fan. I use Noctua with my Megahelems. The good news is the E8500 has plenty of headroom to get to 4GHz but your motherboard is a bit tricky, capable but a little finicky. Make sure you get the latest Bios for your mobo. Doing that often removes issues around overclocking. Yes you can damage you Mobo or CPU or memory if you throw too high voltages at them or don't have sufficient cooling (the more likely cause) for longer term running when overclocked. the guide includes a few suggested limits on voltages. Just go slowly.
