Thermogenic Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) After not trying to overclock for a while, desiring lower power over speed, I decided to try to see how far I could push my system. When I first received my Q6600 G0, I was able to push to 3Ghz on stock cooling without too much issue. Now when I try, I can't overclock at all. The stranger part, to me, is that if I even enable manual FSB clock speed control, but leave it at 266Mhz, it still fails to post! Don't even know where to start - I turned off all the thermal management functions, set my memory to 1:1, nothing helps. Anyone ever see anything like that before? For reference, I can't even underclock - just enabling manual control causes it to fail to post. The same results happen with F12, F13, and F14 BIOS. I think F12 is the minimum BIOS for the G0 stepping on the Q6600. My specs follow, from CPUZ. Did you keep your DMI when flashing your bios? I'll give it a shot and report back... I don't know what DMI is, so I can't say. EDIT: Optimized defaults did the trick - thanks! It's funny because if I were to manually set it identically, it would fail, but if I did optimized defaults before setting it, it would work. Now time to see how far I can push it! Resume from S3 standby doesn't work when overclocked - system hangs, and I have to shut it down from the power supply. Even then, when it boots it fails a couple times to post and automatically clears it's CMOS to allow it to recover. I remember this being a common problem with this board, so I'll do some research on it before giving up again. This is because of it failing to post when you resume. It'll happen if you restart the computer cold, as well (Complete shut down). It's a Gigabyte thing. Mine did it. It turned out to be because of my NorthBridge frequency.
