olig1905 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hi I am upgrading my PC soon and the CPU i am buying to put in it is the one in the title, i dont need help with the process of overclocking i did my research and tried it on my current CPU. What i need to know is how high i can overclock this CPU ive read that it can be clocked to 3.7-3.9Ghz with just air cooling, however i dont presume a simple heatsink pad and fan atop of it would be sufficient for adding 1Ghz+ to stock clock speed. paulktreg Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) How far it will overclock nobody can really say, all CPU's are different. Obviously you aren't going to be able to overclock too far on the stock heatsink so you'll need to fit good quality third party CPU air cooler. What CPU cooler are you using? Cheers Paul Edited December 9, 2009 by paulktreg

Cheers Paul I knew that it would be impossible to say how far i could overclock it. Its easier if i show you what im buying to upgrade my pc http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=341462 with what i have there would i be ok to clock it to 3Ghz thankyou for your response im going to sleep now as it is 10 to midnight so i will look for your repsonse in the morning
paulktreg Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 It's a budget motherboard bundled with what is probably low budget generic memory. Your overclocking abilities are probably going to be severely limited! Cheers Paul
javaman Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Im looking at the 620 to replace my current 6000+ x2, tho im not sure if its worth it over the 425. Athlons certainly are fantastic little processors for the money. Just a pity AMD had to release one for every price point in
olig1905 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 i know it is budget but unfortunately it is a budget i have to keep to. it may be cheap stuff but if you knew what my pc currently had youd probably laugh at me... so il tell you anyway Amd Athlon XP 1.25 Ghz.... (actually i overclocked it yesterday to a whopping 1.6) and 1 gb of ram my set up is terrible so i finally decided i was going to have to find the money to sort it out

Also 1gb ram with a 620 will hold it up since it will be page filing everything to your harddisk.

OCFreak Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I have my 620 currently running at 3.5GHz on a good air cooler, and very good air circulation in the case. It is an amazing processor for the money, can't beat that $99 price point for a quad-core. It performs quite well, but if you are going to be using the machine for gaming I would recommend getting the 720BE or the 550.
