Need Some Help On Overclocking

This is my first time to overclock, so I need some serious help. I have been searching for guides and I'm still not really good at it, I need some step by step help.

 

Here is my computer:

1000 Watt Extreme Power Supply

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8500

INTEL Liquid CPU Cooling System

Asus Rampage Formula

4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR2-800

ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB

 

Do I need a better heatsink before I overclock it?

Like Noctua's NH-U12P heatsink.

I have some tips for you. As far as I know they havent made a version of atitool for the 4870. ill do some digging for you about your GPU.

I would try the newest ATI tool from Guru3d. Also i recomend you download the newest omega drivers

One more thing Get updated Chipset drivers from intel it well help if your planning to over clock your ram and processor

What setting I need to change in my BIOS if I want to oc my ram and processor?

I have a lot of experience with dfi mobos But you would have to give me the list of the settings in your BIOS so i know what options you have hopefully from there we can get you off to the right start

Start off simple; set your multiplier to the highest setting, and start raising your FSB in small increments of 5. Find your safest clock while under temperatures of 60C.

Since you have ram speeds of DDR2 800 you'll need to find out how much it can take as well. So once you get past around 850~860 start using memtest as well as upping your DDR2 voltage. Stay in its limit though.
