bearskin Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I've read the guides and databases until my eyes are ready to bleed. There just isn't a lot of info on this chip. As this is my first OK I have to ask some questions. 1. Do I need to upgrade the BIOS b4 I OK? 2. I want to reach 2.6 at 1.4v or less if possible. 3. Can I do this at the stock timings? 4. What do I change first and in what order do I proceed? 5. After I make the changes, how long do I run dual prime to be sure it is stable? Any and all advice is enthusiastically accepted and appreciated.

Guest BFG Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 You need to be willing to change timings if necessary, but with your ram I do think that you will be quite capable at default timings. NOTE: DEFAULT IS NOT AUTO! You don't need to upgrade the bios before you overclock and I would only suggest doing so if you are having trouble getting stability that seems to be bios related. the 704 beta is a great bios which I am currently running. As far as the order in which you overclock I suggest increasing the fsb 5-10 mhz until it is not prime stable for 4 hours. Then increase the vcore a little bit at a time until you find stability. From there you can begin to tweak your ram timings if you deem it necessary. Only you are going to be able to know if your ram needs to be tweaked because every memory controller is somewhat unique. Once you get your cpu to how fast you want it or you hit the wall dual prime it for 8-10 hours. After that make an ocdb entry and enjoy your overclock! The oc'ing process can take some time, so don't expect to have your cpu running at 2.7ghz by tomorrow. That most likely isn't going to happen without a bit of tweaking. Good luck, happy new year, and have fun!
