LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR and OCZ4001024ELPE Problems.

Hello All,

Problem Description, PC either crashes to desktop, blue screen of death or reboots itself when gaming. Also memtest reports multiple errors on my configuration, but when I try the ram on a different MOBO, no errors. This all started to happen after I flashed my bios with update version, this makes me believe that I am missing some critical bios settings.

NOTE PC was not built or originally configured by me (BIOS), so I have no idea what TECH configured in BIOS.

PC CONFIGURATION

LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR - Running latest Bios - Optimal Settings (no changes made)

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor for Desktop

OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum (2 x1GB Module PN - OCZ4001024ELPE)

I searched the forums but could not find anything relating to my problem or any genie bios configurations for my type of memory.

If anyone could please help, this would be very much appreciated.

Firstly a Sig is not only a rule but, a useful tool to see what makes up your PC - so that given advice is relevant.

Make one before you get given a holiday... :) have a look here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21207

When you flashed the BIOS did you do a CMOS reset after, then load optimal defaults save and exit and restart?

Also memtest reports multiple errors on my configuration,

Booting to Windows until the above is resolved is a complete waste of time and will probably lead to a reinstall of the operating system.

Search the Stock Speed Database and the Overclocking Database for systems similar to yours for suggested timings.

Powersupply.

From Recommended PSU Thread:

Why the 480W Minimum Requirement? These are the Perfect Examples!

Thermaltake 480W SilentPurePower: ONLY +12V@18A!

http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W001314.htm

Thermaltake PurePower 560W: ONLY +12V@22A!

http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W0023.htm

Why do people buy these?

There are PSU's for under $30/$40 in the "Complete PSU Guide" with more +12V amperage!

These 2 TT PSU's are the "poster children" for DFI's 480W+ requirement &

based on these it should be a 600W+ requirement!

Thanks for all the reply thus far, please keep in mind that I am new to all this and if my questions seem well stupid, please excuse my ignorance.

I just did the following in this order…

Re-flashed the BIOS

Reset the CMOS with RESET switch

Entered BIOS and loaded optimal system defaults and rebooted

I then changed the DRAM Voltage from 2.60V to 2.80V

I then reran MEMTEST-86 V3.2 (one pass) and it reported no errors.

Is there anything else that I need to do?

To ensure better stability, do I need to reformat and reload?

Thanks…

If it were me then I would run tests 5 & 8 in Memtest for at least 10 passes each, if it passes all with no errors then run all tests overnight/8 - 10 hours - if that passes then your RAM is stable.

Then I would consider replacing the PSU.

Then whether you decide to reformat Windows is up to you.

You'll find that a lot of issues have been already covered in the past and the Search tool is a great resource for new and old forum users alike...but, in the end the only stupid question is the question that wasn't asked :)
