X2, stepping LCBBE - what to expect?

Recommended Posts

Haven't found any info on this stepping (not even when I didn't included the date code), so... wasted money or not?

Can't be THAT bad, as it's BB, right??

*please please please please*

Just want to add that - yes, I DID use google, and the search engine for this forum. One post about some guy reaching 275x10 on stock voltages, which indicates that it's at least a decent stepping. DFI users are smart fellaz (most of them anyway:tooth: ) who I hope have heard of this stepping before.

My chip is 0629 GPMW, btw. Last week X2's, or?

What do you expect if you have a chip that does that?

Actually, that chip is a problem for me, as I'm going to build another s939 computer now (that's why I bought the LCBBE), and no stepping can guarantee the overclocks I have on my baby. 99% chance I'll get disappointed when I try the new chip. Lol. 2.75 on stock with the Zalman, I can live with that I guess.

I know, I'm insane.

The funny part is that I had some memory trouble (too many auto settings in the BIOS:rolleyes: ), and after trying all sorts of stuff I kinda thought it was the CPU, so I was going to send it back. Then OCZTony gave me the correct memory timings - and WHAM! 2.9GHz:)

It has also survived a LOUSY HSF installation, done by a mate of mine:p (now I take care of it myself. He put the blame on AMD lol), and GOD knows how hot it must've been when I ran it @ 1.425v @ 2.5 when I was trying to figure out my mem trouble. Core temp beta reports 60C during dual prime now (speedfan 56C), with alot less AS5 than the first "installation".

Edit. Almost forgot the perhaps most funny part of this story. When my friend mounted the HSF, he thought it looked fine, even if we could move it around on top of the CPU when it was "installed". To be sure about this, we made a thread on a Norwegian forum, and 3 or 4 guys said it was perfectly NORMAL to be able to move it around like that! LMAO!

The temps were very nice, until one day... then suddenly the temps rose to 77C idle, so I shut off the comp immediately and called my friend. He had a quick look inside the case (case still standing...). Then he gently touched the Zalman, and BANG! It fell off the socket and hit the bottom of the case. This was on an MSI K8N Diamond Plus that I had before I got the Expert, and I still can't believe that it didn't ruin my 7900gt which was placed just below the socket (I did actually RMA it a little later because of the 7900gt disease).

  • 1 month later...

Finally i got this one:nod:

Seems as one core is ALOT worse than the other, the bad one also being 10C hotter than the good one.

Anyway, 2750MHz stock voltage is pretty good (with a Tuniq Tower with a few scratches on the base)). The other core did at least 100MHz more.

I'll try to test this one a little bit more next weekend if I have the time.
