Grunty Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 After running my 6600 at 3.3 ghz for a while I decided to revert back to stock and see if I could reign in some of the fan noise that my comp has been producing. In the most recent BIOS, under PC health status, we are given some options to help set fan speeds; smartfan, full-speed, or something called fan PWM. When you choose fan-pwm it then asks you to set a number between 0-127, 127 being full speed. Indeed, if you lower this number to say, 50, your fan appreciably slows down. What is unclear is wether the fan will speed up, if temps rise. Anyone know if this is the case? I did not detect any increase in fan speed when running orthos. Finally, I dumped the stock cooler on my x1900xtx for the accelero unit from Arctic Frezzer and all I can say is "Wow". It is totally silent and dropped temps a bit too. -G
ollietwinam Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm guessing "smartfan" will be the option that adjusts relative to Temps....
Grunty Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm guessing "smartfan" will be the option that adjusts relative to Temps.... So would I, except it seems to run fan at full blast. I'll try to goof around more with it. I think ITC guardian overrides mobo settings somehow.
