XP-120 + Noiseblocker SX2 + fan controller/mb fan header = no fan rpm

Recently i've upgraded a Zalman CNPS-7000B to a Thermalright XP-120.

I've done it essencially for the silence. The Zalman to keep the cpu at a good enough (for me) temperature had to be running around 1600 rpm's with made him to be very noticeable.

So i bought the combo listed at the thread name.

Temps wen't down a good amount and dB's also.

Not to mention my rams wich by now do not need and extra fan blowing across them since the cooler does it all.

However i cannot get any info about the fan rpm's under +/- 1500 rpm.

I've read it's specs and it is rated to work between 1500/1800 rpm. So this means anything under that value will not be read by it's sensor?

I've tried connecting it to a Hardcano 12 and even to the mb cpu fan header. The result is always the same. Under 1500 rpm i get no results.

When connected to the mb it is even difficult to see anything as rarely the fan will go up that speed since i do not need to have the bios configured for her to go full speed before 40Cº. (The CPU is doing around 35º @ full load)

Is this a "normal" behaviour to expect from 120mm fan's or should i be looking foward to find another fan?

Not to mention this is an excellent one with it's dB's/m3/h ratio.

Thanks for you attention!

Yes it is expected, but the Hardcano should notice lower speeds than the motherboard... if 1500 rpm is the slower detectable speed of the motherboard, 1200 rpm would be for the hardcano 12.

I have a hardcano 12 and two of my 120 mm fans are spinning at 1260 rpm and 1229 rpm (right now). I have another motherboard which can only detect more than 1800 rpm.

Also if you are using a Y splitter to connect both motherboard and hardcano 12 to the fan's rpm sensor cable it won't work... at least that is what I have seen with other controllers; if its working then well done, and another good advantage for the hardcano 12 :)

Seems to me then that it is not the motherboards fault rather the rpm sensor of the fan wich is unable to detect rpm's slower than 1470 (to be precise).

Thanks for you info's!

Yeah... you could always upgrade the 120mm fan for a Panaflo of the right specs, and with the Hardcano12 you can run at any speed you require.

I am using three Panaflo Ultra High Speed fans, two on the Radiator and one on the back of my Stacker, and being ultra high speed they are quite noise at max rpm... but with the controller at medium or less speed the noise is nearly gone. There are more silent versions of the Panaflo 120 mm, like this one:

Thats actually very quiet at just 30 dB at max rpm... at half speed I guess the noise level would be around 20 dB. There is another one a little bit more powerful:

These require a special cables because they don't come with rpm cable:

Hehe, I guess this is just too complicated... :)
