smc1 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I've heard that it is best to use a downward fan cooled heatsink (such as the xp-120) on the DFI boards so as to cool surrounding components as well as CPU. Some of the best coolers seems to be the tower type, but I'm concerned about long term damage to the mobo due to side flow of fan. Can anyone enlighten me with there experience. Thanks

What do you mean by this, that the towers mass tends to make it want to twist off the board?
smc1 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 No, That the flow of air on a tower is running parrallel to the mobo instead of blowing down straight at the board. I've heard that some board designers expect some overflow of air from the stock fan/heatsinks onto adjacent componets to help keep them cool. At least that's what I've heard. Do'nt know if it's true for theDFI board I have.
