Help me not break my RAID (nForce3 to 4 upgrade)

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to this forum as I just purchased my first DFI motherboard yesterday. An MSI nForce3 Neo2 crapped out on me and I decided to bite the bullet and go PCIe, so I've ordered a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and a x1900xt. My issue is that I had my 2 Maxtor 300GB drives in a RAID0 array on the nForce3 SATA controller. I'm hoping that I will simply be able to enable RAID in the BIOS and it will recognize the array, but I haven't been able to find out if this is the case. I understand that moving RAID arrays can be dicey, but I thought it might be possible moving from one nVidia controller to another new one. Will this work, not work, or even worse corrupt the array?

If it's absolutely necessary I have a friend with the same MSI board I had, but he lives 90 minutes away and I'd rather avoid the long process of moving all the data off the drives, breaking the RAID and then moving it back on.

Thanks for any help.
