Vis Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I was considering the Thermalright XP-120 and was wondering if anyone else has had experience getting it mounted on the NF4 Ultra D. I know it's rather....large and has clearance issues on the sides, just wanted to make sure it will fit before a purchase. Also, if anyone can recommend a quiet 120mm fan to mount on top, I'd be thankfull.
Slammy Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 i have a xp-120 on my ultra D. it fits fine except that it overhangs the memory slot. I am using Corsair XMS with heatspreaders and what i had to do was install the heatsink first then i could barely get the memory in there but it does fit. My case has a removable motherbaord tray so it was done out of the case aswell. I love this heatsink also. I run my 3500+ at 2.6 and it gets up to about 50c with heavy gaming, hate to see how hot it would get with anything less!
Vis Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Hmm, I'm worried about that memory slot. You managed to keep the heat spreaders on the memory, right? I use the orange slots, so I think it's going to overhang it.
Sage2050 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 yes, it overhangs, but consider it extra cooling. it takes a bit of work to get the ram in and out though. not too difficult, however.
cdidhe Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 also make sure your 120mm fan is blowing towards the mobo. Its the way it was designed to be, and will improve coolilng.
