SpikeSoprano Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Ok folks here's the problem, the daughter went for the w10 upgrade from w8.1 on her 6 month old laptop. It installed fine but the hdmi would not show the screen on her tv ( most likely a driver problem ). As she uses her pc to watch dl'ed movies this created a problem, she called me and I told her to revert back to w8 (which we are supposed to be able to do according to micro$oft ).When it reverted back it screwed up her password and now she can't get into windows at all. bp9801 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Is she linked up with a Microsoft account? If so, could just do a reset of her password on your computer and then tell her the new one. If she isn't, it's a little trickier, but still doable, provided she has a Windows 8 disc. No disc, then gotta use this. 1. Boot your computer using your Windows installation disc. 2. Wait for the setup files to load, and select your language. Click Next. 3. Click the Repair your computer link on the Install Windows screen. 4. Select the operating system to repair, and note the drive letter on which the OS is installed (it is probably C: or D:). Click Next. 4. Click Troubleshoot, Advanced options, and then open the Command Prompt. 5. Click Command Prompt at the bottom of the list of recovery tools. Now you need to overwrite the Sticky Keys executable with the Command Prompt executable. Sticky Keys is an accessibility feature that allows a user to tap the Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or Windows key once to achieve the same effect as holding the key down. Ordinarily, tapping Shift five times activates Sticky Keys--but with this trick, you are going to make tapping Shift five times activate the Windows Command Prompt instead. The instructions below use drive letter C: as an example. If your operating system is installed on another drive, replace C: with the appropriate drive letter. 1. In the Command Prompt window, type copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ and press Enter. 2. Type copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe and press Enter. 3. Exit the Command Prompt and reboot the computer. At the login screen, tap Shift five times. The Command Prompt will pop up. 4. Type net user username password, replacing username with your username andpassword with a new password. 5. Exit the Command Prompt, and log in using your new password. SpikeSoprano Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Thanks BP, no she didn't get a windows disk when she bought it, I don't think anybody gives them anymore , but I told her to do a factory reset using the f11 key at start up, hopefully w10 didn't mess with the factory partition. As long as we get our hands on another temp system for bootdisc. Not many of us have heard or turned a blind eye on this Microsoft software called daRt. I usually use ERD commander. However, the point being use daRt, its a repair tool developed by Microsoft to combat these issue that your daughters computer is facing. Helps for password as well!
