paulktreg Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) Anybody help? First of all let me say I have zero experience of Linux. I have a problem with my daughters Acer Aspire One Model ZG5. "Internal Error failed to initialize HAL" at switch on. The netbook is not recognising any of the ports, USB, SD card slot, etc., etc. Operating system: Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E Anything I can look at before I RMA? (It's only a week old!) Any help appreciated. Regards Paul Edited September 27, 2008 by paulktreg
nVidia_Freak Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 In all seriousness, if it's not recognising anything at start up, it's likely something you can't fix. (I also have very little experience with Linux, if 'switch on' doesn't mean 'start up', then oh well...)
paulktreg Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) I have had a look around on the internet and have a feeling it might have happened after an automatic update? Having no experience with Linux though leaves me stumped! How can I use the recovery disk if the thing isn't seeing any ports! "Switch on" or "Start Up" same difference! Use a better colour for your comments next time. Regards Paul Edited September 27, 2008 by paulktreg
cold_snipe Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Humm, HAL is just what it stands for - a hardware abstraction layer. If its failing to start on its own then you could still mount your rescue disks manually. (if its failing not because of itself then i guess you should RMA, but try playing with it first) Or if youre booting off of these disks then it should still work as long as your drives show up in bios. Anyways, netbooks i dont know much about.. im guessing the sd card would be something like sdb? try mounting /dev/sdb somewhere, see if it works. Any further info could help too~ like a dmesg (sorry, havent been keeping up with linux lately so i might say random useless things)
