Hey guys,
I am looking for a way to convert plain text to html markup for user inputs on a website similar to how the post feature works on this website.
As in it allows formatted text without the user having to us html tags. The just hit enter when the converter reaches that point it will close the <p> tags and open a new one.
Example, something with this functionality, Textism. Only the html would be sent to the db instead of the user.

What language would i have to use? Or is there a good free resource? Or a basic one i can improve upon?

Thanks,
Speed

Maybe something like YUI Rich Text Editor? Look at the examples for the interface and you'll probably want to look at the code editor example (note the code button on bottom right of the icons)

Rich Text Editor FTW! I think. I will have to see what it outputs. Thanks Flareback. I was dreading having to build one myself.

You may also want to look at TinyMCE.

tinyMCE is great but has some issues with iOS Safari if iPad users are a concern

What kind of issues?

Previous versions of iOS did not support the rich text functionality. This isn't an issue with iOS 5.

Well, then they get normal text boxes? Big deal. I am only using this for the content creation function so this probably wont be any problem. Who writes a sitre from a phone? Unless of course they use an IPAD, though those are prolly 5 anyway.
