Help lower Vcore

Hi guys I have a small question

does lowering the CPU PLL helps lower the vcore?

 

I'm using a turbo oc of 4.4ghz

internal pll overvoltage : disabled

EIST : anabled

intel turbo boost : enabled

enhanced turbo : disabled

XMP : enabled (1866mhz 1.5v)

DRAM timing mode : link

Vdroop offset control : [+50.0%]

digital compensation level : high

CPU PLL voltage : auto

C1E support : enabled

overspeed protection : disabled

intel C-state : enabled

long duration power limit (w) : 200

long duration maintained (s) : 1

short duration power limit (w) : 250

 

runs stable at prime95 blend test

cpuz reads vcore @ 1.312v full load and 80 degrees max temp

but aida64 extreme reads my cpu vid @ 1.391v

 

my specs:

intel core i7 2600k

z77 mpower

crucial ballistix elite 16GB (8GBx2)

asus gtx 690

seagate barracuda 2tb

thermaltake TR2 900w

There is plenty of fairly concrete evidence that lowering the CPU PLL can help eliminate 0x0124 BSOD errors on Sandy Bridge.  Lowering the CPU PLL can also slightly lower cpu core temperatures.  However, beyond anecdotal evidence I've never personally saw anything that would absolutely prove that by lowering CPU PLL you can also lower the cpu core voltage.  Pretty much just trial and error at that point.

 

At any rate, any time you can run voltages lower than nominal and still remain stable - that has to be a good thing for the most part.  I've found on the last three rigs I've built that as long as I stay at a multiplier of 45 or less (Sandy and Ivy) that I can run the CPU PLL voltage anywhere from 1.72v and 1.76v and maintain stability.

 

I've seen some people that are able to run CPU PLL as low as 1.64v and still maintain stability.using a 2500K, 2600K or 2700K.  

 

On my current setup I'm running a 3770K at 4.40Ghz with the CPU PLL at 1.76v with complete stability 24/7.

 

Now bear in mind, that once you start hitting the higher multipliers and higher clock speeds, the inverse can be true and you have to start increasing CPU PLL to maintain stability.

For finding your absolute lowest stable CPU PLL;

 

Disable CPU PLL Overvoltage - do not rely on "Auto" and of course if you enable it you are defeating the purpose

 

Start reducing CPU PLL Voltage 0.01v at a time and see if the PC boots.  Continue doing this until the PC wont boot and then add 0.01v back to the CPU PLL Voltage.  Now check stability with OCCT or Prime95.  Continue adding back 0.01v until your system is stable during stress testing

temp results are great

Wow, that might be a record  :)

 

Remember, if you have any stability issues be sure and give the CPU PLL voltage a bump.

 

How long did you run Memtest for?  If less than 8 hours, schedule an 8 hour run one night before you go to bed.

I haven't run a memtest yet just prime95 blend test for 6 hours, I'll try a large fft for my memory right?

Another update, I managed to lower my vcore after setting my bus speed to a fix 100.00mhz

set my cpu pll voltage to 1.6,

1.5 unstable with ibt

 

turbo oc 4.4ghz

internal pll overvoltage : disabled

EIST : enabled

intel turbo boost : enabled

enhanced turbo : disabled

XMP : enabled (1866mhz 1.5v)

DRAM timing mode : auto

Vdroop offset control : [+37.5%]

digital compensation level : high

CPU PLL voltage : 1.6000

C1E support : enabled

overspeed protection : disabled

intel C-state : enabled

long duration power limit (w) : 200

long duration maintained (s) : 3

short duration power limit (w) : 250

 

runs stable at prime95 blend test & ibt

cpuz reads vcore @ 1.296v full load and 80 degrees max temp

aida64 extreme reads my cpu vid @ 1.391v
