I had a similar issue recently using an msi board with the same chipset, same proc but a set a gtx 260's, I also tried using some mixed ram I had laying around at the time. The lockups and slow performance was cured by putting in 4 sticks of identical ram. I could be wrong for suggesting this to you too but it helped me and it runs great now.

Can't get fan cooling fan/fins off
zedsed420 replied to jr_sanford's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
Sometimes the heatsink and cpu get stuck by the thermal paste. What I do is give the heatsink a little twist before I pull it off. Make sure you have completely removed all screws attaching the heatsink to the motherboard and then give a little twist, it "should" come right off. Is it an AMD proc or an Intel? -
I love it, great sound and effects.

I am currently using a CrosshairIII with a pII 955 and its a great machine. I am also using a 790gx with a pII and it is also a great machine. The Crosshair is my gaming rig and with the 2 4870's in crossfire makes for the best gaming rig I've ever had the privilege of owning. Its really a matter of budget. They are both great boards and with the phenom chips you cant go wrong.

My experience has been exclusive with AMD. The 965 and 955 procs I run every day to do tasks from Photoshop etc. as well as games like Crysis, Far Cry, WoW, and other graphics intensive games and I always find myself saying " man I'm glad I didn't spend all that extra money on an Intel setup. The money you save vs performance makes AMD procs well worth it. I know the stats say that Intel is faster but my eyes can't tell the difference. But my wallet sure noticed!

I have been running the 720 x3 for a few months now and my experience has been great. It's not overclocked or anything but it's run stable since day 1. I have read about the quad core relationship to the x3 but have not verified it. For the money it's a great proc. And as far as a gaming proc, this one does better than my 9950 deneb quad core BE. Smooth gameplay in everything from Crysis to Counterstrike Source. It's in a MSI KA780G motherboard with a Radeon 4850 Graphics card. Don't worry, It's a VERY capable proc. You'll be happy with it. I sure am.

I'm not sure if this is even relevant but I have to ask, What carries enough juice to create a shower of sparks from a computer? In 20 years of building computers I have never seen a single spark from anywhere on a pc before. I'm not saying its impossible, I just want to know what would cause that so I can keep my record of 0 sparks going.

AMD anounces 6-core CPU
zedsed420 replied to _TheAlexO's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
I, as a dedicated and loyal AMD builder (since 1995) I really hope this proc puts AMD back on top. All these arguments about which is better, Intel or AMD? In my opinion and experience, when AMD launches a new proc, it's a ground up kinda thing. Like when the first 64 bit procs hit the market, the Athlon and Phenom procs, Istanbul? These were all game changers in the area of processing. I have HIGH hopes for this proc as we have never seen a desktop proc for the home user with 6 cores. Intel tried with the I5 I7 etc. but they just couldn't compete on the level of value for your dollar. AMD has always kept the user in mind when launching a proc by making sure the average joe could afford to get one. Intel=fail in that arena. I know the extra 2 megs in the level 3 cache improves its speed, but who cares when I can't notice the difference and it's gonna cost me at least 100$ more to find out? I'm really excited about this and I know I'll be ordering one as soon as they let me! -
If you look at the proc speeds, Intel is around 250 dollars more for the same proc speed than AMD, I don't want to turn this into a fanboy thread, so I'll say this. If you don't want to dump all your budget into the proc and mobo, stick with the ones you have already chosen as they are wonderful performers when it comes to gaming. I have run every game on this system from WoW to Crysis, Counter strike source, Far Cry 2, UT3,etc. and my framerates and gameplay have been nothing short of amazing.

What you have listed sounds like a great system. I am also running a 955 with 8g DDR3 1600 and for the money I spent I have great performance. I don't know about Intel systems other than they are way more expensive than the AMD so if price a concern, stick with AMD. I agree about the video card. I would scale it back to a 4890 1g or wait a little longer and see what the 5 series cards cost. And I also agree that the PSU should be the best you can afford. Save the extra cash you would've spent on an intel system and buy yourself a bigger monitor.

I recently joined this forum and when I posted my 2 most recent builds, Zed I and ZED II, I never expected them to get noticed. I have worked hard to make these systems special and OCC has far surpassed my hopes. As of yesterday you made ZED II the most popular case on OCC and ZED I is on the list as well.So I wanted to say a heartfelt THANK YOU! You don't know how much this means to me. I hope to share many more builds with you in the future! OCC ROCKS! P.S. New pics coming soon for ZED I's recent major upgrade!

What would be the lowest you would go and still be in your good graces? I don't know what you paid for it so I'm not sure what a fair price would be. -

I guess that would depend on the condition of the board e.g. hours used, accessories present, etc. -

Yes I understand, I made an error earlier when I said SOUTH, I meant northbridge.
