  1. thanks guys! I decided to actually go with the Noctua NHU-14S. I got one brand new at a local pc store going out of business for $14.99. I returned the $109.99 evga unit and will put that extra $100 towards a better monitor. As I am using a Qnix 27" 1440P. I want to move to 4k for productivity, not so much for gaming.
  2. I just got my 8700K in the mail today from newegg after being backordered. I also got an asrock extreme 4 motherboard and some g.skill 14cl 16gb 3200 ram. I have a question about cooling. I have a new in box h60 corsair laying around, but also ordered an evga 240 aio at the same time as the motherboard. So... I now have 2 aio's lol. I dont plan on going full bore OC with this chip, as I dont care about super insane clocks especially since i will be using this for professional work and gaming on weekends. I need stability before epeen high oc rates. I cant decide which cooler will fit my needs better? I only realistically plan to OC to maybe 4.6-4.7 for 24/7 use. Is it worth having the extra $110 240mm aio in there for mild OC? Or should I just use the H60 and call it a day??
  3. Nevermind all, lol. I found one on ebay for 7 bux. thank you!
  4. I bought a b350 motherboard from someone that got a different setup. He misplaced the mounting backplate for the heatsink. He has the 2 peices and the screws just not the backplate part itself. Anyone know where I can locate one?
  5. Ended up ordering G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C14Q-32GTZR 14CL timings, rgb, etc. with discounts etc it cost me $307.99. It right in the middle of what I was looking at speed wise, and I can probably overclock it if needed. =
  6. I got my pre-order in with newegg for the 1950X and the MSI X399 Pro carbon board. I wanted the taichi, but it wasnt offered through my newegg premier for some reason. I am having a hard time figuring out which ram to get for it. I know TR is essentially 2 ryzen cpus fused together, so I assume the logic of ram compatibility is about the same. 2 questions. I don't do HEAVY streaming or anything professional grade with running tons of things at once, gaming mostly, and video encodes. So my first question is, would 16GB be enough? I was thinking maybe a 16GB quad channel kit @ 3000Mhz CL15 from corsair. Or, if I go 32GB quad kit @ 3200Mhz CL15 from corsair.. I looked on newegg for a decent quad channel kit, and came to a few options. Second question. I am having a hard time deciding between 3000mhz and 3200mhz. I know the board states up to 3600mhz, but I am not trying to get the fastest ram on earth in this thing. Just something speedy and efficient and something that will be good for gaming and video encodes, with the occasional streaming. I watched a few videos online showing even with adobe products, with the exception of after effects, which is a program I don't even use, all of the test were about the same running 16GB vs 32GB. I hope I can get some expertise from you guys as always . Thank you everyone. I love this forum!
  7. I had this same question. I have a corsair 650 watt that I just bought for a ryzen 1700x system, that is recently returned. I am holding out for a threadripper myself. I am starting to think that the corsair 650 that I just bought wont be enough for the best threadripper chip and a 1080TI.... What do you guys think?
  8. I take donations Well, once my new build gets taken care of (hopefully threadripper), you pay shipping lol
  9. I can return the CPU Thanks to buying it from walmart.com when it was on sale for $299. I have 15 days it says, and thankfully can return it by then. I cant beat the free system I don't think (and a brand new 480GB SSD to boot! lol). I guess I can sell the X79 on ebay, but with threadripper right around the corner, I might as well get my money back, and use the X79 in the meantime. At least it should last until threadripper shows its face and if its even worthwhile to get. If its way too expensive, I can always rebuild a ryzen 1700X system im sure for the same cost, if not, maybe a little cheaper.
  10. Thank you guys for the info. I actually think I will use the x79 until there are some good reviews on the threadripper once it comes out. Too bad OCC doesn't take donations, lol. I would donate this X79 once I build my new threadripper. I figure if I can pay it forward, I would.
  11. OK, I didn't know where to post this, so I put it in the build section, as they are both builds, lol. I just finished a b350, 1700X, 16GB Build. Works fantastic, and 4.0Ghz overclocked. Here is the dilemma: A friend of mine gave me his "old" pc. He is building a new intel X299 system and has the $$ so I figure let him, lol. His old PC is a Gigabyte X79-UD3 socket 2011 with Intel i7 3820 in it. 16GB DDR3 in quad channel. With corsair liquid cooling, solid state, yada yada. He wiped the hard drive on it and it is like new, just needs windows installed. I got it for free and he threw in a brand new sealed 480GB SSD that he was planning on putting into it as well. My question is, should I send back the ryzen parts to newegg and basically just use the 3820 machine? I only do gaming and sometimes video encoding. I would be putting in my GTX 1080 card, and was wondering if maybe the card might be bottlenecked by the X79 platform. I am basically thinking of getting my refunds on the ryzen system, and use this one until threadripper might be announced and at that point make a decision, as I may have built the 1700x system a little pre-maturely. Not sure. What are your thoughts? Will there be a noticeable difference in system speed do you think?? I honestly do web-browsing and gaming (2-3 hours per week). My job and family takes up the remaining hours in the week, lol. Or.... Should I just part out the X79 system on ebay and make some money back since the board, chip, and memory are all like new still??
  12. I got it to 4.2Ghz at 1.43V but I dont like the temps at all and I dont see much of a performance improvement if at all. So, its going back to 4.0 at 1.356V lol.
  13. I got my Ryzen 7 1700X system all up and running. Brief Specs: Asrock Fatal1ty B350 16GB FuryX Memory DDR4 2666 Corsair 650W PSU 1700X with Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 With 2 Fans on it Currently running 4.0Ghz @ 1.356V Set in board. On CPU-Z on full load it shows 1.312V, While running AIDA64. Temps never go above 50C in a room that is climate controlled at 72 degrees. I keep reading forums that say 4.0 is basically usually run at 1.4+ Volts. Not sure. It posts to bios at 4.1 at the 1.356V but wont boot windows. I didn't push it any higher on voltage or anything just yet. I want it to be 24/7 use, and dont want to pump 1.4+V through it. I am new to Ryzen, and only know as much as I can read on them. I also read there are conflicting voltage limits to running 24/7 use. Some sites suggest 1.35V and others 1.375V. Any input would be awesome as always! Maybe its just an above average chip? Not any crazy lottery win? I have no idea. Thanks guys/gals! I am currently running a second 8 hour stability test as I type this since I didn't get my screenshot taken as I intended. Will update when complete. Also, Is there a better stress test to take? I alternate between AIDA64 and Prime95
  14. Ok thank you so much for clarifying that for me. I really do appreciate all the great info!
  15. So it should be OK to run then? Would I be gimping performance of the second drive? I guess it would be limited to sata 3 speeds then? Or should I get a PCI-E 2.0 Adapter and toss it in an empty pci-e x4 slot? and use the M2 SSD to get better performance?
