  1. Well, I was using 2k as a rough estimate. Somewhere around there. Probably no higher than 2k though. Meh, it's not terrific over here :S I will post pictures whenever I actually build this silly thing
  2. Tons of information. Thank you. What I could really do... is just do everything BUT TEC/watercooling. Later on, I'll add the extra cooling. At least that way, I can afford all of the ridiculous components and still get my unique cooling set up.
  3. Lol, no dude. We were on the topic of NVIDIA (or at least I thought so). You said to use a 7950. So I was thinking about the older NVIDIA series. I had no idea that they were releasing the 7x series for Radeon. I really don't follow up on much of that. So I can definitely say a 7950 will be ridiculously fast... That's what I figured. I noticed my location is not present so you don't know where I'm from. I live in the states. So I can shop at NewEgg and probably FCPU, too. Alright. Make suggestions. I'm curious to see what you send me. I figure $2k is a nice round budget. I don't want to go to far because I know I'll never be able to save that much. And, being only 18, I don't think I really should spend more than that much (even $2k is a ton to spend on a custom built). I've always wanted to build that "super computer" or ridiculous overkill PC. Something we'd all like to build I guess. Well, they did say it shouldn't be nearly as expensive as the previous series. I guess we'll see just how expensive the 7950's are. I wanted to do watercooling/TEC because it looked interesting. Something I had never done before and I wanted to have experience doing it. It's not exactly because I totally need it. Hell, I'd probably always be fine with air cooling. I'm not a huge overclocker (although, if I had superior cooling, I probably would OC more often). Remember, the original intent for wanting this is because it was a really cool idea. And it'll look BA in a case (at least I think it will). It's purely for bragging rights even if technically I could get a better video card and etc. The TEC/watercooling really inspired the want for a new build. Also, even if I did get the 7950, I doubt I'd ever use all its potential. Hell, I hardly use all of my 5770. So a small improvement to a 550ti (or whatever) is fine with me. It's also just to see a new build, have the enjoyment of putting together another PC, and getting to enjoy playing around with new hardware. I'd love to build these crazy and unique set ups all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury :S
  4. Oh you're talking about ATI not NVIDIA. That's... totally different. Well, I assume the 7950 is going to cost a ton of money. I wasn't looking to spend over 250 on a video card. I'm fine paying around 150-200.
  5. Wait, why are you asking me this, lol? I'm in the U.S. if that's what you're wondering. I bought all the parts for 3 different computers I've built from NewEgg. 7950... last time I checked the benchmarks it's extremely a slow GPU. Just search for it... http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php I can't even find a 7950 on NewEgg. That's below the 8x series. And the 8x series is like 3-4 years old. Well, whatever you're looking at, at least link me to it.
  6. Wait, why a 7950? Isn't that really old technology? Yeah, 2k for the entire system. I guess I could. Assuming they have good prices. Edit: Yeah, I just checked. I'm really confused why you'd have me get a 7950. It's much, much worse than a 550ti. And getting a 550ti is a considerable upgrade from the card I have now. I'd be building an entirely new system. Figure I should start from scratch and get better components.
  7. Since I'm new to watercooling, I wasn't entirely sure what would run through the tubes. I wasn't sure if you could actually run distilled water or if you needed some custom liquid. I figured to go with the tubes because they didn't have red dye. They had red/oj UV tubes but they're out of stock atm. Even so, going with UV tubes did seem a better idea to me than using a dye. I guess I'd like to keep it under 2k. Was figuring I'd need at least a mid-tower case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196 Seems like a good enough case to me. Rather would go with a tower with a reddish detail. Tired of blue Probably would only have 1 GPU. Probably a GTX 550 Ti. What about hard drives/SSDs? Northbridge? I guess the more I keep going to more expensive it will be. I gotta keep remembering that My specs will be like this (could change a bit over time): Core i7 2600k GTX 550 Ti 850w Thermaltake PSU No Optical Drive (Maybe in the future a DVD-RW or even a blu ray) 2x4 GB DDR3 1600 Memory (later would drop another 2x 4 GB to make it 16 GB) Motherboard will probably be something to just support an LGA 1155 and have at least one x16 2.0 PCI-E Slot (nothing in particular set just yet). Probably around $100 mobo. 64 GB Corsair SSD SATA III (2.5") (Since HDD prices are absolutely ridiculous now, why not go for an SSD? Maybe by the time I can actually put all this in motion, the prices will go back to normal again.) As for an OS? I have random copies of XP and 7 lying around. Shouldn't be an issue (legal ones LOL). Also, I'm not sure when I'll be able to build this. But when I do, I'll probably post pics here
  8. Indeed. You don't get to brag about TEC So that Rasa kit + the TEC troller + waterblock is all I need to get started? I'm assuming I would purchase Red UV tubes if I wanted the really sick red glow in my PC, right? And, you said something about this not being complete? So I could add on to this even more so?
  9. If I were going to say what air I feel is best, it's the Thermaltake Frio. A bit too large, however.
  10. As far as I know, there really aren't any applications that can fully use the new LGA 2011 socket CPUs. Sticking with a 2600K is probably most people's best bet. Unless you happen to know you have a way to use 2011's, then by all means 2600ks are plenty powerful.
  11. That helps I found the link someone eventually posted. http://www.arqtik.com/products/285TDD.html $100 isn't too bad. But I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at That's the waterblock, right? I'm assuming the waterblock is like the "central hub" where all your tubes go through? At least, that's what it seems like to me from the pictures. I can get a decent idea... but I definitely need to be filled in on the rest of the information. What else would I need to get to complete the cooling "circuit"? Again, thanks for that link! +1 And when the site says "Max Power Consumption: 694.4W", what exactly does that mean? That I should have like an 800w-1,000w PSU? Like, what exactly would you recommend for PSU wattage? Just noted the guy from that post had a 850w PSU in his rig. Seems like that would do the trick. And would I get the 12v or 24v TEC controller (I would definitely get V3.0. Wouldn't want to risk causing condensation)? I don't know what's the benefit of having the 24v? Or if I would even need the extra voltage.
  12. I've read up on TEC cooling. I pretty much know how the basics work (in other words, I don't need 3 people copy and pasting information from wikipedia or something). I've seen enough examples to prove it will do as well as water cooling or better (unless someone here can prove me otherwise). I really can't find solid information on a kit or something set up for a PC. I'd like it if someone could explain to me where to look and what parts to look for, as well how I would go about putting it together. I have absolutely no knowledge of setting up anything like this (however, I have built a few computers). Also, I realize it may be overkill in a lot of situations. I could really care less. I'm really an enthusiast (as many people here probably are). I'd like this type of technology for "bragging rights" (although I really wouldn't brag haha, just to feel cool or whatever), and also for future hardware. Whatever. It just seems like a very, very interesting thing and I'd like to get my hands on working with it. I'm not really considering putting into the build I have now. Not that it's not good or anything, just if I'm going to invest in TEC, I'd like my rig to be extremely top notch. Even if TEC is expensive, I'd still like to see prices and figure it into my budget/how much I'm willing to save. If watercooling is the route I end up going, I'd like to see those options too If anyone can be of help to me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks <3
