  1. Well, in the manual it says that my model of 1600 MHz RAM isn't supported in 1600MHz. Not sure if it means stock and OCed, or if it means just at stock.
  2. The sticks say 1600. Where would I do this in the BIOS?
  3. When I bought my motherboard (P7P55D-e Pro) and RAM (4 GB DDR3 1600), it said on the specifications that my motherboard is compatible with 1600 memory. However, when I look at the BIOS it says that it's running at 1333 MHz. How would I increase it to 1600? Help is appreciated.
  4. Well, I'm relatively new to OCing in particular, and I'm wondering about overclocking my i5 760. I don't want to get deep into voltages and whatnot, so I'm using ASUS' Turbo V Evo on the P7P55D-e to OC. The auto tuning overclocked my CPU to 192 MHz FSB, but I'm not sure of my multiplier, or how much this would equate to in GHz. Help and advice would be appreciated.
  5. I have recently ordered parts for my new build. However, my heatsink (Frio) reportedly overhangs the closest DIMM slot on my motherboard (P7P55D-E). This wouldn't be a problem, but my RAM (Ripjaws, two sticks) have heatsinks on the top. What I'm asking is whether my two most appealing options are possible or plausible, other than ship the items back for different ones (I could also remove the heatsink off the RAM, but I'm not really too up for that). My first option would be to cut off the bottom of the fan bracket of the heatsink, though this would void the warranty. My second option would be to put the RAM into blue slots (second DIMMS) instead of the closer ones, though this way the RAM might not register. Lastly I could ship one of the items back and get either non-heatsink RAM or a 212+, though that would take more time. Here's an image from another forum of what happened to someone else: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=83944&stc=1&d=1277402664 I don't think the heatsinks on the Ripjaws are as big, though they're most likely big enough.
  6. Excellent, I guess I'll go for the 212+. Thank you very much.
  7. Okay, I'd like to know why because, from all the reviews I read, it seems good. What temps do you get with the 212+?
  8. I've looked at the Frio and decided that I prefer the V6. Thanks, but I'd like to know whether I'll need to overclock, and whether a V6 will be necessary or if I can live with a Hyper 212+.
  9. Hey, so this is my first actual from scratch build, though I've upgraded many-a-friends' computers. I'm pretty much set on this build, though there are a couple things I'm not sure about, mainly concerning the CPU cooler, overclocking, and prices. Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout + 2 fans Mainboard: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro CPU: Intel Core i5-760 GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N460OC-1GI GTX 460 1GB RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB Boot Drive: OCZ Vertex 30GB PSU: Antec EarthWatts 750W CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V6 First, I'd like to know from owners of the CPU cooler how it fits inside a case, specifically a case similar to the Storm Scout with side fans, because what I've heard and seen it is big. Second is that I've heard that memory with heatspreaders do not fit with the V6. What I'd like to know is whether it will fit with ripjaws on my mainboard. Third is overclocking. A lot of what I'll be doing is Photoshopping and gaming, and I'd like to know whether I could run well on stock settings, or if I should do a light OC or use turboboost. Another thing that applies to this is that, if I choose to run stock or turbo boost, could I run on a Hyper 212+. It would be cheaper, and would save a lot of trouble of debating over size. Lastly is prices. I have a budget of just over $1000, and I need to include the price of 1 $190 monitor, plus all applicable peripherals and an optical drive. I've double checked on every possible price, but I'd like to know if there are any better prices than that of Newegg (excluding the cooler), or if I should wait it out until black Friday. Any help and/or criticism on the build is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again, but the $80 price tag is a turn-off. I'm on a budget and with everything else I'm buying it seems I can't go over $60ish. The Cooler Master V6 and Thermaltake Frio look appealing, any opinions?

Thanks, will do, but what's wrong with the Hyper 212+?

    New to OCC

Hey everybody. I'm new as a member on the forums, though I've read around a bit. I came here, well, to get help with my new (and first) rig. I've taken apart, upgraded, fixed, etc. other peoples cases and computers and had a lot of experience with hardware, but have never actually built one. I'm upgrading from an iMac G5 (ew) but it was a pass down and I never had funds to actually go build myself a new computer. Generally, I'd like some help with the build I'm planning on buying. I'm pretty much set on it, but I want to know if it would be possible to get better prices for the parts (or different parts), since I'm running on a budget of just over $1300 (US). I'm planning on doing some (a lot) of gaming, so I'm spending more money on cooling, but I don't have the option of frequent upgrading unfortunately. I'm also planning on doing some OCing, not much, though unfortunately I haven't had any experience with that so help would be greatly appreciated. As follows: Case: COOLER MASTER Storm Scout + 2 fans Mainboard: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro CPU: Intel Core i5-760 GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N460OC-1GI GTX 460 1GB RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB Boot Drive: OCZ Vertex 30GB PSU: Antec EarthWatts 750W CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+ I'm starting completely from scratch, so peripherals and a monitor are applicable to the price. Help would be appreciated greatly for both the parts and the OCing. Also, sorry for the hasty intro and direct approach.
