  1. Alright thanks for the replys so far. I'll look into it and see what I change. Unfortunately my uncle already bought the PSU so he's stuck with it. Does somebody have something else to say?
  2. I've been tasked to design a build for my uncle. It's a mid end build. He primarily uses his computer to surf the web, rip DVDs, use AutoCAD and play the occasionnal Flight Simulator. He recently had to change his graphics card and power supply (blown capacitors), and, while he's at it, he decided to change his whole computer, since it dates back to 2004. So we can salvage the graphic card and the power supply, which are respectively a Radeon HD 5750 and a Coolermaster eXtreme Power Plus 500W. I can also keep the DVD drives, the keyboard, mouse and monitor. All that remains is a new case, a motherboard, a processor, an HDD and some memory. I already picked some pieces and would like advices if I need to improve the build. Processor : Phenom II X4 945 Motherboard : Asus M4A78-E HDD : Western Digital Caviar Black 640 GB Case : Coolermaster Centurion 534 RAM : OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2-800, 2x2 GB Thanks in advance
  3. I'm using the windows 7 RC right now and I have issues with the languages. I want to set my keyboard layout to french multilingual. However, whenever I change the keyboard layout when I'm using a program, wether I change it in the language settings or in the language bar, when I close the program, the keyboard layout automatically changes back to english. I can't get it to stay on french. Anyone can help me?
  4. So my sister is going to university and she asked me to help her buying a new laptop. It is preferable that she buys one of the models proposed by the university. Problem is, my hardware knowledge is more desktop-based and I don't know much about notebooks. That's why I came here looking for your help. There are four models that she can buy, and the university only displays basic info. First is the Lenovo Thinkpad X200-62F. It features an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.6GHz), 2 GB 1066 MHz RAM, a 5400 RPM 160 GB HDD, an Intel GMA 4500 MHD graphics card. The screen is 12.1 inches with a 1280x800 resolution. The cost is 1699 CAD. Next there is the Toshiba Portege A600-003. Core 2 Duo ULV Su9400 1.4 GHz with vPro (?), 3 GB RAM (nothing about frequency), 5400 RPM 250 GB HDD, Intel GS45 Graphics Card. The screen is 12 inches and the compu costs 1599 CAD. The following choice is the Lenovo Thinkpad T400-31F. Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM 1066 MHz, 7200 RPM 160 GB HDD, Intel GMA 4500 MHD video card. Screen is 14 inches and resolution 1280x800. It costs 1499 CAD. Finally there is the Toshiba Tecra M10-0ER. Core 2 Duo ULV P8700 2.53 GHz again with vPro, 4 GB RAM (nothing about frequency), 5400 RPM 250 GB HDD, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150 Graphics Card. The screen is 14.1 inches and the compu costs 1269 CAD. My sister wants a reasonably fast laptop that can load her applications and work fast enough. She also wants to be able to stream and watch videos on the internet and play those little flash games. With these condition what do you advice she buys?
  5. Ok thanks guys, in the end it'll be a rundown between HX520w and TX750w. Although I prefer the first one because I found it for 20$ cheaper somewhere else.
  6. Hello, I would like to get some advices on what PSU I should get. My build is : an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU, an Asus P5Q-E motherboard, an Asus ENGTX275 graphics card, 2x2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer RAM, Antec Nine Hundred Two as case, a Pioneer DVD-RW optical drive, a Seagate Barracuda 500 Go HDD and finally Logitech G5 and G15 as mice and keyboard. Now I have the choice between the Corsair HX520w or the OCZ ModXstream 700w. I don't know which one I should get. Or you could also go on this site : http://www.microbytes.com/computer/ordinat...&filter_id=, where I'll buy my PSU. I want something in the 100-150 CAD range. Don't forget to go on the english version.
  7. Alright guys, thanks for the feedback. I'll take your advices and see what I can build with it.
  8. I guess I could drop down to an Asus P5Q-E motherboard with some OCZ or Kingston DDR2 RAM around 1066 MHz. What do you think of it? That's what I wanted to get first, but I changed for DDR3. As for the AMD CPUs, I'll look into it, but the E8500 is very tempting to me. Oh and no, I didn't buy it already. Sorry about that.
  9. Hello, I'm building a custom PC designed for gaming and I already have the pieces worked out, but I would like some reviews on my build. Cpu is Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Graphics Card is Asus ENGTX275 Case is Antec Nine Hundred Two PSU is OCZ StealthXstream 700w HDD is Seagate Barracuda 500GB (16 mo cache) Motherboard is Asus P5Q3 Deluxe/Wi-Fi AP RAM is OCZ Gold 2x2GB DDR3 1333 MHz So what do you think of it? Also, I won't buy Core i7 cause it's too pricy right now where I live.
