Wow, thanks very much. I did exactly what you wrote, and the folder is now gone. To be honest, I was very much expecting to see the Windows.old folder still there after I did what you wrote because I had already tried deleting the folder using different commands in cmd.exe and none of had them worked. Anyway, my problem is solved, and hopefully I won't encounter any problems or issues because of the folder deletion. I will post back if I do. Thanks again.

Hello. I have searched for this problem online and I have tried some of the recommended solutions, but none of them have worked for me. Using an upgrade disc, I clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit over my previous version of Windows, which was Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Once it was installed, I manually deleted my Windows.old folder (by right clicking and choosing Delete). I think the 'proper' way to delete this folder might be to use disk cleanup and enable 'Previous Windows Installation(s)'. In any case, everything was deleted from that folder except the folder itself and some directories, namely everything in this path: C:\Windows.old\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM. When I show hidden files, there are two files with long names in weird characters. I cannot delete the Windows.old folder or any folders within it or those 2 hidden files. Whenever I try to delete any of those, the same message always comes up: "Item Not Found". Does anyone know or have any idea of how to fix this? It's not a HUGE issue obviously, but I just want it gone. Any help would be appreciated.

I already ordered the 4650 (see build below), but those cards were out of my price range anyway. I'm sure they beat the 4650, but I just couldn't afford them, given my total budget. You can do a clean install using the upgrade disk, but that is only if you have Windows installed already. It is a clean install in the sense that you wipe out your hard drive (or at least the partition with the OS on it), but you still need a version of Windows installed on the computer in order to do that. In my case, my friends don't have a computer, so it doesn't apply. But thanks anyway. Also, I looked on both the Corsair site and the Asus site, and neither compatibility list reports that the RAM will work with this motherboard. Does anyone, by chance, have this exact combo of RAM and mobo working? I would really like to stay with this ram and mobo because they are priced well, well-reviewed, have characteristics that I like, and they are part of good combo deals... so if someone can let me know if this RAM will definitely work, I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Well, supposedly it can play some games decently. My friends aren't really gamers, but I would like them to have the option of at least trying a game or 2 if they want to... they can always upgrade to a more expensive vid card later if they really want it. I just want something's that not crap. Oh, and this vid card is $25 off with the RAM I listed, and it comes with a free COD4 download. And I can't afford to add anything really. As it is, the last list totals to $555 including shipping. Well, it would be nice if they could play games like Left 4 Dead 2, Battlefield 2, Resident Evil 5... just most modern games in general... again, they don't need to get great FPS but it would be ideal if they could at least play them with tolerable FPS, even if it's at low settings. I'm under the impression that LGA775 for Intel might be outdated soon (what with the i5 and i7 sockets now in place)? So is the AM3 something that might last longer than 775? Very good; thanks for reminding me that it's just an upgrade. I bought it recently for myself, knowing that it would work, but that's because I have Vista installed. Hello. I am building a computer for my friends for Christmas. My budget is $500 (their Mom gave me a check... I'm not THAT good of a friend, lol). Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I wasn't sure either way, if the compound should be replaced or not just to replace it. I guess I wasn't sure if the compound wears out from heat over time or something? I have no idea how the stuff works. I guess I won't replace it unless I happen to replace my heatsink, CPU, or if I want to remove my current heatsink to clean it. Thanks for the advice guys.

Thanks for the response. Do you think the temps might start to noticeably increase in a year or 2? Should I change the thermal compound even if the temps don't increase? I figure that it wouldn't hurt to reapply the compound every year or so, assuming that I don't apply it worse than it was on before. But, then again, maybe there's no good reason to do so unless the temps increase? By the way, thanks for your post on how to build a computer. I used it (and added some of my own steps) and am very happy with the computer that I built, which is working very well.

As the title question reads, when should I reapply thermal paste to my CPU if ever? I built my PC in mid June 09. I have a core i7 920 and a Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283V cooler. I used AS5 thermal compound. I think I am getting pretty good idle temps: according to RealTemp, my 4 cores are currently idling at 46 44 47 and 38 respectively (I never quite understood why the 4th core was so lower... makes me wonder if the thermal paste spread unevenly and if I can achieve similar low temps for the other cores)... it also reports that my lowest temps have been 39 36 39 29. Anyway, my question is really this. Assuming that I am achieving what seem to be good idle temps, when might I want or need to reapply thermal paste to my CPU? Does it start to wear out after time? How much time? How do I know? Just by looking at the temps? Finally, as a tangent question related to my parenthetical comment earlier, is it at all unusual that my 4th core is about 9-10 degrees lower than my 1st and 3rd cores? Might this suggest I can achieve similar temps with the other cores if I reapply thermal paste now? Thanks.

I have a Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283V fitting just fine in my HAF 932. And all 4 stock case fans are installed comfortably as well.
