  1. The graphics card just throttles and stutters from the 55C - 61 C temp range. And because of the throttling at 55C it can be awhile before a 3D app reaches 61, sometimes it doesn't get there (non intensive). Anything before 55C and after 61C is normal. The throttling does not show up on any software monitoring program I've tried so far. Anyone thinks the GPU is damaged? Crappy card
  2. Ok, I think I have found the problem, in my case it seems to be some form of thermal throttling applied on my Video card's GPU. I cannot be sure that this may apply to those who are experiencing the same thing. I only get stutters when running 3D, nothing else. Tools used : Rivatuner & some intuitive argument. Here is what I've concluded after much tests : GPU thermal throttling - in my case, basically, what is happening is that the card's GPU/mem starts to throttle to some super low performance clock rates when it hits 55 degress. This throttling is not shown through Rivatuner's hardware monitoring. I wonder if its some card anomaly with the onbaord BIOS? My card idles at 48 degrees. WHen it hits 55 degrees, the throttling kicks in and keeps the temperature of the GPU around 55-57. By now I have also found out that my vid card 'unstutters' itself. meaning the throttling totally stops, at a GPU temperature of 61 degrees (no tools to measure mem temps). See the weird problem here? To get the card to reach 61 degrees, I had to run RTHDRIBL at 1280 fullscreen, with 16AA, bump on and all other settings to max. If I don't do this, the temps will linger around the 55-60 degrees stutter zone. When it hits 61, performance resumes to normal and the temps will then continue to rise normally, making games playable etc. I'm deducing a bios edit/flash is in place for this damn card. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is this some kind of common bug for Nvidia cards and can this allow me to RMA? Thanks for readin!!
  3. Clear the CMOS. I tried different versions of the BIOS updates over the past 2 days after I got my board, and had lots of them giving me the 3LED or 2LED -hang-Eventually settled on one.
  4. Doesn't seem to be CPU related either, or RAM. I underclocked the CPU and RAM but still stutters, even underclocked the GFX card, lol. Off to take it out on my kat. :cat:
  5. Weird, is this problem known? I've not managed to gathe rmuch about this on Google. I've confirmed and double checked its not Cool n Quiet at work, have it disabled in bios and have motherboard monitor on when running games and 3D apps. The CPU speed didn't even flinch Maybe you know of some things I don't Really hope someone knows how to fix this. Having to run the game for awhile and hoping it becomes playable isn't really what I inteneded when I bought this PC
  6. Hi all, I am currently at my wit's end here trying to figure out this strange phenomenon that is my new A64 build. I have just put together the system listed in my Sig but I have this strange graphics stutter problem that I just can't fathom. Graphics (when running 3D games, benchmarks etc.) start to stutter in an uncomprehendible manner like they were being throttled, at a regular interval somewhat like : smooth > jerky > smooth > jerky > smooth > jerky. Interval is around 1 second. It is very annoying and games are unplayable. It is difficult to troubleshoot as it goes away *sometimes* after stuttering for awhile, but most of the times it doesn't fix itself. However once it gets smooth it will stay that way for that app, until you run another 3D app and it will rear its ugly head once again. Have tried all ways to fix it. Different drivers, settings, different bios settings etc. Thought maybe it is a lack of power to the vid card and tried to add more power by powering it thru a spare HEC PSU I had lying around, but no dice. Also tried moving it to the other PCIE slot, tried only one stick of memory, different stick of ram, disconnecting almost everything except devices needed to run Windows. CPU is in good shape too, ran Prime95 for 6 hours, and finished loops of Super PI 32M. Good temps (around 45 C load). As I am typing this RTHDRIBL is running in a full screen window in the background Silky Smooth (16x AA and everything set to highest). However if I close it and rerun it it will start doing that stuttering . again. Also thought maybe the CPU is throttling but I have disabled all forms of throttling from within Bios. Cool n Quiet definately set to off. Am at my wit's end here, almighty google doesn't seem to be providing answers. My OS is WinXP SP2 and I am currently using the official 81.98 Nvidia drivers. Could it be an incompatability of my 3D card and the motherboard? Do I need special drivers for a 512MB card? Thanks for helping, cheers.
