  1. Hi guys !! I am interested in buying a laptop (ASUS N70SV-X1 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16834220529), which has 4GB of RAM, and comes with a 64-bit version of Vista. My problem is that I want to use 32-bit Vista on it, since more programs are compatible with the 32-bit version. So is this possble ? Can a 32-bit OS be used on this Laptop ? If yes, would there be any cons in doing this ? Thanks in advance for all the help
  2. Hey guys ... Well I have an old PC from like 3 years ago, which had a DFI SLI-DR motherboard in it ... Now recently that motherboard got shot, and I had to get another motherboard which was compatible with the old AMD 939 socket type ... So I got the Foxconn Winfast NF4SK8AA-8KRS Motherboard .. Now with this new motherboard, I am experiencing a very strange problem. When I shutdown my computer from Windows, even though everything seems to 'turn off' (you can't hear anything), there are still signs that the PC is not 100% off ... Specifically, the computer is still supplying power to its connected peripherals !?!? For example: - The PS/2 keyboard's 3 LEDs are on (CAPS LOCK, SCROLL LOCK, NUM LOCK) - The PS/2 Optical Mouse's red light from underneath is on - I have an external 1TB HDD ... This HDD's red/write LED is flashing .. - I have an external USB Dongle too ... This dongle's blue LED is also on .. So all these signs point towards one thing that the PC is not 100% off when I shut it down .. Below I am posting my motherboard's current settings from its BIOS .. please have a look and tell me if there is anything I can do to resolve this issue .. Thanks in advance guys
  3. Thanx for the help guys ... Verran, what I am basically trying to do, is make a silent installer, which can install some basic everyday use programs .. programs like winRAR, and foxit, and some video codecs, etc .. and then I plan to share this silent installer with my friends .. I plan to give them EXEs over a USB/CD etc .. which they can simply run on their own PCs, and install these same everyday use programs .. so nothing complex at all is needed .. just a simple program which can monitor how the installation of some specific software changes the state of a computer, and then replicate those changes onto other computers ..
  4. Hey guys ... Need your help to find a particular type of software .. I am looking for a software which can install multiple programs silently, while requiring little or no user input at all (unattended installs) ... like for example, I'm sure you must have seen those software of computer Recovery CDs (which come with branded PCs), which automatically install a set of drivers, software, etc. automatically, with requiring the least user input .. I need something like this, for making a software package which I can distribute to other people .. Please note that I DO NOT need this for deployment on a network .. the PCs where I want to use this multi-unattended installer on, are not operated by me .. There are two types of software which can help me out here: 1) Macro-recording like Programs: Programs which monitor which buttons you press, etc.. during an installation, and then just copy these actions again when they are asked to silently install the programs on other machines .. Example: Almeza MultiSet 6.3 2) Change Monitoring Programs: Programs which find the change in the computer's settings from before and after an installation .. changes in registry, files/folders, etc ... Example: EMCO Remote Deployment Kit .. I am looking for something similar to the second type above, since they are better ... in macro-recording type software, a single button more or less can literally make matters a lot worse ! I don't really care if the software is Freeware or Commercial .. I can pay for it, even if its expensive .. it just needs to be good! Please help me find a good software meeting the above mentioned needs people
  5. About 5-6 days ago from now, my PC started running into some very peculiar problems ... The problems started off with small-scale software related issues, but then got bigger from there on .. Here is a timeline on how things started happening: 1) It all started with a system restart: At one moment everything was fine, and then I think because of something, I needed to simply restart my PC .. No biggie, so I just told my PC to restart. However, even the PC restarted, it immediately became *very* slow !! I mean, once it went into Windows, it used to get stuck even when I just single-clicked on an icon on the desktop ... ! I thought that it was probably some virus .. 2) About the same time as above, I noticed that my chipset fan broken down ... Stopped spinning .. I am in the process of ordering an Evercool VC-RE for it right now, but for the time being, I have made some adjustments to the existing fan, and its running again (although very noisy) 3) After another 1-2 days, Windows just stopped loading properly! I could not reach the Desktop stage. It always got stuck during some stage of the Windows starting process. Sometimes it got stuck right after choosing the OS from the OS Selection boot menu, and sometimes it got stuck at the Windows's Welcome message .. ! For situations like these, I have always had a backup Windows XP installed as well, which I never used at all ! The idea was to only use them in extreme circumstances, when emergency things need to be done ... Even this Windows stopped booting! Now I knew it was something serious .. 4) To try and format my PC, I tried re-installing Windows XP from boot time .. But when the setup tried to format my drives, it used to hang !! Then it said that my hard drive is probably damaged !! 5) Then, the graphics display of my computer started going a little weird. Weird because during boot time, all the letters/words printed on the screen or normally white, right ? ... Well my problem was that some letters were coloured, while the remaining stayed white ... Here is some garbage paragraph (typed it up quickly ), which shows what I mean (think of the white characters as the normal white ones that appear at boot time): tty tuy tg seferfrol oi uoiuyfosdiljfrt ety twu t gr ftu yu ujte ref d cr y t jr v rf ry tr jy ju i 75eu5t e ye i r8986 iu yu jet g fv df bnh jku k hdf gfawe y6 e6uyr j ths g r ie uiki yj yh esty reg yj u6ik jyt hje uik eik ioik ydh y r hts f gs rt ey teh jty iu urk ut jtr ty re gs gh ytu uiku tjd yt hje 7i eu jd yj hgndh ggt teyuyru yd hj drhy r g eth s h yrj ei 7 o i7km jyth es tg s ryyueu iutj i utjrht eyuyj yrhu jgn ytty tuy tg seferfrol oi uoiuyfosdiljfrt ety twu t gr ftu yu ujte ref d cr y t jr v rf ry tr jy ju i 75eu5t e ye i r8986 iu yu jet g fv df bnh jku k hdf gfawe y6 e6uyr j ths g r ie uiki yj yh esty reg yj u6ik jyt hje uik eik ioik ydh y r hts f gs rt ey teh jty iu urk ut jtr ty re gs gh ytu uiku tjd yt hje 7i eu jd yj hgndh ggt teyuyru yd hj drhy r g eth s h yrj ei 7 o i7km jyth es tg s ryyueu iutj i utjrht eyuyj yrhu jgn ytty tuy tg seferfrol oi uoiuyfosdiljfrt ety twu t gr ftu yu ujte ref d cr y t jr v rf ry tr jy ju i 75eu5t e ye i r8986 iu yu jet g fv df bnh jku k hdf gfawe y6 e6uyr j ths g r ie uiki yj yh esty reg yj u6ik jyt hje uik eik ioik ydh y r hts f gs rt ey teh jty iu urk ut jtr ty re gs gh ytu uiku tjd yt hje 7i eu jd yj hgndh ggt teyuyru yd hj drhy r g eth s h yrj ei 7 o i7km jyth es tg s ryyueu iutj i utjrht eyuyj yrhu jgn ytty tuy tg seferfrol oi uoiuyfosdiljfrt ety twu t gr ftu yu ujte ref d cr y t jr v rf ry tr jy ju i 75eu5t e ye i r8986 iu yu jet g fv df bnh jku k hdf gfawe y6 e6uyr j ths g r ie uiki yj yh esty reg yj u6ik jyt hje uik eik ioik ydh y r hts f gs rt ey teh jty iu urk ut jtr ty re gs gh ytu uiku tjd yt hje 7i eu jd yj hgndh ggt teyuyru yd hj drhy r g eth s h yrj ei 7 o i7km jyth es tg s ryyueu iutj i utjrht eyuyj yrhu jgn ytty tuy tg seferfrol oi uoiuyfosdiljfrt ety twu t gr ftu yu ujte ref d cr y t jr v rf ry tr jy ju i 75eu5t e ye i r8986 iu yu jet g fv df bnh jku k hdf gfawe y6 e6uyr j ths g r ie uiki yj yh esty reg yj u6ik jyt hje uik eik ioik ydh y r hts f gs rt ey teh jty iu urk ut jtr ty re gs gh ytu uiku tdj yt hje 7i eu jd yj hgndh ggt teyuyru yd hj drhy r g eth s h yrj ei 7 o i7km jyth es tg s ryyueu iutj i utjrht eyuyj yrhu jgn y Thats weird right ... ? Random coloured letters .. My troubleshooting so far about all this is listed now: 1) I have taken out the hard drive which is 'reported' to be having problems, and I have plugged it in another PC of mine. I have run some tested on it, and it seems to be fine. I got the Western Digital Diagnosis tool and run both the Quick and Full Surface tests on it. Both tests reported that the hard drive is fine ! Then why was the problematic PC reporting that there are problems with it ?? ...... I am running Spinrite on it right now (at Level 4), and even that test is running fine so far .. 2) To check whether there's some problem with the memory modules, I ran memtest for like 5 hours. Tests 5 and 8 were run about 13-14 times each, and then the rest of the tests for about 3-4 hours ... No errors anywhere .. So this leads me to believe that maybe the problem is with the motherboard and probably the GPU as well (eVGA 7900GT OC) ... So I need some software which can probably 'check' for problems in the motherboard and the GPU ... I know the PC's specs are probably a bit outdated now, but I was still planning to use this rig for at least another 2 years, without any major changes/upgrades ... So bringing this PC back to health is very important to me Need some expert advice on all this please .... .. I'm very confused
  6. Hi everyone ... One of my computers recently started experiencing a few problems altogether .. now I have a hunch that there might be something wrong with the hard drive in this computer .. So basically I am looking for some very professional kind of software which does some good Hard Drive diagnostic and repair work ... Something which scans hard drives inside out for possible problems .. Something like memtest, but for Hard drives .. Some software recognised a professional hard drive doctor ... Dont care if its free or commercial, as long as its good Know any such software ?
  7. OK thanx for that help guys ... Anyways, I saw this video regarding installing an Evercool VC-RE on a DFI motherboard, and the maker of the video (Angry_Games from the former DFI Street) said that it should be at least 91% pure ... is that some kind of a requirement .. ? (I'm kinda new at all this ) I mean, I know you said that I should use the purest form of Alcohol I can get, but would it be harmful to your chipset in any way if the alcohol solution I get is not pure enough or something ? Secondly, is there any name given to the alcohol of pure alcohol we are looking for here, so I can just ask for that in the shops ?
  8. OK thanx for the help everyone .. So I think I'm gonna buy this Evercool VC-RE .. I got two more questions about the thermal compound re-application procedure ... 1) The Evercool VC-RE fan kit already has some thermal compuound in it. Do you think that's good enough, or should I buy some Arctic Silver Ceramique just for this .. ? I mean, I know that Arctic Silver Ceramique may give slightly better results than the compound coming with the Evercool VC-RE, but would the difference be so much that I should specially buy Arctic Silver Ceramique for this ? Also, to be very honest, I really just want to get the new fan up and running .. I'm not really crazy about reaching the best possible performance ... So would the thermal compound coming with the Evercool VC-RE be good enough for me ? 2) Secondly, about the alcohol cleaning substance thats needed to clean up the chip's top before re-appling some thermal compound ... does this alcohol solution need to be something specific, or can it be just any other ordinary alcohol solution used for cleaning household stuff ?
  9. ^^ thanx for the reply man ... I've seen a lot of recommendations for this VC-RE ... but isnt it meant to be used with a VGA Card .. ? I know people have managed to put it on their chipset, but I thought some modding was required for this, which I don't know much about ...
  10. Hey everyone .. So like 2 days ago, the stock chipset fan in DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard just died on me ... I am trying to revive it these days, but in case it doesn't work, I'm gonna need an aftermarket chipset cooler for my DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard ... by the way, I have my video card plugged in the bottom PCI-E slot, one which is not directly in front of the chipset fan cooler space .. So, any chipset fan cooler suggestions for my DFI nF4 SLI-DR motherboard ?
  11. hi guys....well I am trying to change the speeds of my new A. C. Ryan Blackfire fans using SpeedFan 4.33 under Windows XP, but nothing is happening for me ... I tried checking and unchecking the 'Automatic Fan Speed Control' thing, but that didnt work for me either... From what I can guess, to change the speed of a fan, I only need to increase or decrease its percentage, and the change should be effective immediately (that is, i do not need to press any 'Apply' or 'OK' button to confirm the change).... Also, SpeedFan seems to be detecting my board fine (Nforce 4, for DFI nF4 LanParty SLI-DR)... The temperatures are being detected too... For some fans, the RPM is showing as well in SpeedFan, but when i try to modify the speed, nothing happens... Lastly, I also tried the latest motherboard configuration uploaded to their website for my motherboard, and using that, but this didnt work too.... What could I be doing wrong ? Also, is there any other fan speed controlling program out there ? Whenever I google 'fan speed control', all I get is SpeedFan thanx in advance...
  12. sorry im replying after such a long time ....been real busy with uni work lately .. anyways, is there is a solderless way to extend the wire, because i dont have soldering hardware...
  13. yeah, I think I should get a controller....but is there any windows based software i can use to control the fan speed ? I tried Speedfan, but its not working for me for some reason, or i dont know how to use it regarding the extension of wires.....since i have never done this before, can someone please outline the procedure for me ? ... ...and what type/kind of wire would i need, etc... ?
