  1. the drive works though. i tested this drive on another pc, with the same fdd cable i have in my pc right now, and it worked. and i don't have another drive with me at the moment.
  2. no, only when i put a disk in and try to get to explore the a: drive. like i said before, it sounds/looks like it's reading the disk and is about to open it, but it never does. it always says nothing is in the drive.
  3. not that this has much to do with dfi boards as it does with my stupidity in general, but i still cannot get my floppy drive to work. i finally got back into windows by following that list of settings rgone made (which seems to be working pretty good so far. memtest ran for ~7 hours with no errors), but when i put a disk in the drive it sounds/looks like it's reading it but then it spits back the little "please insert disk into a:" error box. i'm pretty sure the cables are connected correctly. there's only 1 way to really do it ;p and i know this drive and the fdd cable connected to it works because i tested them in another computer.
  4. 1 stick of ram in dimm2 ran for ~17 hours in memtest with no errors. i'm testing stick #2 in the same slot right now. it's been going for 3 hours with no errors so far. if this runs for more than 13 hours with no errors, i'll put both slots back in an up the voltage to 2.9 and see if that lets me into windows.
  5. that will be a last resort. i honestly do not feel like backing up everything on my hdd right now, but if i have to i will do it. i'm gonna test my ram stick by stick, and then try changing some settings if both sticks come out good. if they don't and 1 is faulty i'm probably going to buy new ram.
  6. memtest goin on 5 hours with 1 stick in dimm2 with no errors so far. i'm going to let it run until about 9am tomorrow morning then i'll test the other stick. if that comes back with no errors i'll try changing the voltage and whatnot. any suggestions on what settings to use aside from raising the voltage to 2.8/9?
  7. nah, i've had this pc built and running (not good, but running) for about a month, month and a half.. maybe 2. i've always seemed to get blue screens and i always received memory errors in world of warcraft, but now it's just gotten ridiculous.
  8. and my timings are 2-3-2-8. everything is pretty much default. i didn't really mess around with anything yet.
  9. oh and about my floppy problem. when i put a diskette in the light turns on like it's reading it, but it always says that there is no disk in the drive. and i'll check the wires again.
  10. well right now i have 1 stick in and memtest running. it's been running for 2h30m now with no errors. when i tried booting up with both sticks in i would get blue screens saying DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and some others. some times it just had the basic blue screen warnings and STOP: 0x00... at the bottom. so you think i should up the voltage to 2.9? what about the timings. i have that list of bios settings on that thread angry_games made. is that a good one to follow?
  11. i'm using the 7/06 bios, and i did not run memtest with only 1 stick in. this i will do over the next 2 days. and yes i have all 4 power connectors plugged in... now before yesterday only had 24pin and the 4 pin. i never had the floppy or hdd cable connected. i thought this was why my floppy drive wasn't working, but now that it's plugged in it still doesn't work
  12. my pc attempts to boot, but usually freezes at the windows screen. sometimes it gets past the winxp screen, but then a blue screen pops up and it either instantly reboots or the bsod stays up and i have to press the reset button. the pc actually booted up twice, but it eventually crashed due to a bluescreen. and before all this i ran memtest again in duel channel mode and only received 2 errors during test #5 over a ~13 hour period. in single channel mode i received over 3000 errors just in test #5 over a ~13 hour period. test #5 was the only test i received errors in while running memtest.
  13. ok well when it said checksum error, i hit delete to enter the bios and loaded optimal settings and it booted up. when i got into windows i got a few popups that said windows have recovered from a serious error, but its running right now..
  14. ok, i just tried turning on my pc again and i got the lanparty splash screen and as soon as that came up i hit delete, but it froze. so i rebooted it a few more times. about 5. most of the time it did nothing, but the last time the splash screen came again and the pc almost turned on. it got to the screen where it shows the date of the bios at the bottom. it says 7/06 instead of 3/10, so the bios apparently was flashed, but it says this to me now: CMOS Checksum error - defaults loaded Warning! Now system in safe mode. Please re-setting CPU Frequency in the CMOS Setup. what does this mean
  15. Hi, I've been searching through threads on this site all day because today I tried and flashing my bios with not so good results... I found that bootable cd with a gui for flashing dfi bioses (tmods.iso) and attempted to flash my bios with the newest one on that cd (the 7/02 one edited by bigtoe?). I used this cd instead of trying to do it the normal way with a floppy disk and dos because i could not get my floppy drive to work (however i think i figured out why it wouldn't work in the first place, and when i say why you will all laugh at me ). So.. i boot the cd, flash the bios, reboot pc and power it down. I take d/c the power cord and turn the master switch off and take every other cord out so i can actually open my case. The first time i tried to get the battery out of the mobo, i failed. I just sort of moved it then moved the cmos jumper to clear, then put everything back and tried booting the system back up. The lanparty splash screen appeared and i hit delete, but everything froze. I couldn't even turn the pc off with the power button so i had to turn the switch psu off to power it down. I read if you did not clear the cmos correctly the first time, nothing would work. So i attempted to take the battery out yet again. This time i actually removed the battery entirely and moved the jumper to clear again and let it go for a few minutes. Replaced everything, connected all wires, boot up pc... Now i see nothing. This time the splash screen doesn't even appear. The pc just hangs and the monitor doesn't turn on. The blue led light blinks and the red one isn't even on. I still cannot power down the pc with the power button so again i have to manually turn it off via the psu. So again i try clearing the cmos and this time i let it go for about 15 minutes and get the same results as i did the last time. So now i can't get the pc to boot up. I've noticed the diagnostic lights were not all on when i did this. The 2nd time i attempted this, only the first 2 were on. The last time i did this 3 were on. So it's almost there, but not quite I don't remember what was on the first time i tried. Oh, and the floppy drive thing.. When i was looking around this site i found a step by step installation guide for this mobo with pictures. There was a picture where it said there should be 4 power connectors connected to the mobo. So i looked at the picture and i looked at mine and i only had the 24 pin and the little 4 pin under it connected. I didn't have the hard drive one or the floppy drive one connected. So now i have everything plugged in, but i cannot turn on my pc And about my ram.. the 2 sticks of crucial.. i've been getting many blue screens and errors in highend graphics games (wow, guild wars). mostly wow, with the #132 errors constantly. so i ran memtest when my ram was in dual channel mode, but it didnt recognize the chipset for some reason, and there was not any errors after about 11 hours of testing. later on i moved the ram into different slots so it ran in single channel mode and ran memtest for ~13 hours and there were 3162 errors in test #5. this was the 2nd ram i've ordered for this pc. i had ocz gold series to begin with, but it did not boot when i had it in my pc when i first attempted to boot it up after i built it. so i just thought it was defective and returned it and got crucial, which now has errors. if anyone reading this wants to respond but needs for information, please ask because i probably forgot some stuff that i should of wrote that i will probably remember later on. i just want to get my pc back on
