  1. Alright everything is set up and running. It's been going all day with no problems. Tried gaming a bit, everything is good. Looks like the power supply is fine. I'm very glad for that because I didn't want to put even MORE money into this system right now. Thank you for all the help everyone.
  2. Well last night I brought my computer to a family friend's house. We ran a bunch of tests and we got results when we tried running the system outside of my case. It booted up. We think it may have been an extra mounting screw I had neglected to remove that was causing a short. Or it may have been the fact that it wasn't running under full load and the power supply really is dying. If that is the case I apologize and feel like quite an idiot for not listening to you guys sooner. Either way, thank you for all the help so far. I'll let you know how it ends up.
  3. I actually tried that last night wevvspot. It booted up. I had an extra mounting screw in my case that I needed to mount for my former board but that shouldn't have been there for this new one. I removed it and tonight I'm going to try putting everything back in and see what happens. I left my computer at a friends place who was helping me test some things so after he finishes work we're going to continue. We think it may also be the fact that we didnt have everything plugged in, so the power supply was working but it doesnt normally work under full load. Either way I think I should finally have a working computer soon. Thank you.
  4. I just tried a minimum build, no luck there. I checked the mobo power connectors and i have the 4-pin and the 12-pin plugged in. I think that's all it needs, it doesn't mention anything else in the manual. What's weird is that my PSU was working in my other computer, and at the tech place they even checked the voltage on it in front of me and they said it was fine.
  5. Alright so recently I had some problems with the computer in my sig. I brought it into a tech shop, they diagnosed that the motherboard was dead. Since socket 939 is so hard to find and so expensive nowadays I figured I'd just go ahead and upgrade my CPU/mobo/RAM. I replaced my current parts with: OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-15 DDR2 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ATX LGA775 P35 1333FSB 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.33GHZ 1333FSB 4MB Retail I'm no expert but I've assembled a computer before, the one I have was chosen and built by me. I thought I'd be able to do it again no problem. I switched the old parts for the new, double checked that everything was alright. Everything seems good. However, when I try to power it on....nothing happens. I've been trying to troubleshoot what's wrong, trying a bunch of things. I reseated everything, triple-checked all the connections, tried the RAM in different slots, etc etc. Still nothing when I hit the power button. I could really use some suggestions because I've been computerless for quite some time now, and to finally get new parts and STILL not have a working computer really sucks the big one. How likely is it that the motherboard is faulty? Or did I just make a rookie mistake somewhere?
  6. Alright so I checked the front panel headers and I think I've got it all plugged properly now. Still won't turn on. Urgh. Does anyone have any ideas?
  7. I tried reseating everything, triple-checked that everything is plugged in properly. Cleared the CMOS. Tried the RAM in different slots. Made sure the power bar I'm using works. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I didn't plug in everything to the Front Panel Header properly, although I tried a couple things and nothing worked. The labels on the wires for the P180 case don't match up exactly with the slots on this mobo, and I can't tell if I have them reversed or not. I think I tried every combination though. All I need to connect is the Power Switch, Reset Switch and the System Power LED headers right? Besides that, what else could it be? Someone told me it could just be a faulty motherboard. How likely is that though?
  8. Well I've installed everything, hit the power button....and nothing happens. I checked your "My Computer Don't Work" link wevsspot and I tried everything...no luck. Any idea what the problem might be? This really, really sucks.
  9. Are there any particular steps I need to take when switching the mobo/CPU? I should probably format my HDD and reinstall Windows once everything installed right? If so, should I format both my hard drives or just the one with windows installed on it?
  10. One last quick question. Do the Core 2 Duos run hot? Should I bother with a heatsink or is the stock one sufficient? And nah I don't plan on overclocking or anything.
  11. I think this is what I've decided on. Any comments before I place my order? Everything looks good right? OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-15 DDR2 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ATX LGA775 P35 1333FSB 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.33GHZ 1333FSB 4MB Retail
  12. Hmm for an extra $50 I could get an E6550 instead of an E4500....worth it?
  13. Alright so I know which motherboard and cpu I'll go with, I just need to pick the RAM. I plan on ordering from NCIX because its one of the best sites in Canada. Could someone check this out and see if there's any particular kit they'd recommend? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=105 And once again, thank you everyone for all the replies. This thread has been very, very helpful.
  14. My bad wevsspot, I just changed that And yes Sharp they said they transferred everything to a new mobo and it booted up no problems. I was hoping it was just one of the PCI-E slots that died because they said they hadn't even tried the other one, but that didn't work .
