  1. i only stopped @ 2.3 b/c it went to 2.42 and not 2.4, but regardless, im going to run some indepentant tests to figure something out. I'm going to take out my 7600GT and put my old 7300 GT OC and see if that fixes the issue.. if so, ill RMA the 7600 and get a new one. Now if that DOESNT fix it, ill take out my GeIL and put my old Kingston in to see if that works... if so ill RMA the ram and get a new set... unless GeIL just doesnt work. (From others Rigs though, GeIL works with this Mobo to my knowledge.) I'll post again after my tests. Oh, and i have not run memtest b/c i dont have it and have never done it.
  2. i guess everyone else is as stumped as me... hell, if someone wants to talk to me live on the phone or in AIM or something to try and help ill do it, i want this fixed b/c if i have to RMA something ill scream
  3. DRAM set to 2.33v , no effect on "lag" While game running (BF2), went in and checked affinity and unchecked cpu1 so it was only running one core for bf2... no change reupdated 9.35 nforce drivers for winxp... no change ram in orange slots, no change AMD dash and power monitors showing no anomolies (sp?)... heres my latest DXDiag from what i sent in to amd's support ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/28/2007, 11:06:48 Machine name: VALOR Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: NVIDIA System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 378MB used, 3560MB available Windows Dir: C:WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. 4. all right, ill go fix that again, but im still having the same issue with games lagging/freezing like they were and have no clue what to do about that.
  5. update: Well.... *cough* i unplugged my compy and all its toys to plug it all into a new surge protector and when i turned it back on with said changes... everything was a blue hue... everything... bios and all... it all worked, but just blue. Yeah... well i went into BIOS and loaded optimized config to fix it, so i guess its all back to normal.. game issues and all. The noob in me just won i guess. Help plz, who knows what ill do next time, lol. Now its also saying it just found a RAID controller....wants software for it too...man, who knows whatll show up next? Found new Hardware: Cure for Cancer, please install software to access cure... On the bright side.. i did move my ram to the orange slots, lol....
  6. ill make a post every time i update a step towards getting this fixed... step one from browsing: i checked GeIL's site and will be upping the voltage on the RAM to 2.4v like the site recommends for this type and ill be switching both sticks of 1GB to the orange slots as someone said they work better for some reason. update:havent switched ram to orange slots yet... BIOS doesnt have layman's labels for everything so heres a list of things ive altered since ive started PCI/VGA Palette Snoop Enabled CPU/C51 Voltage 1.31 -> 1.42 CPU/C51 HT Drive Strength lo,lo -> Hi, Hi DRAM Voltage Control 1.85 -> 2.33v C51/MCP55 HT Voltage 1.30 -> 1.41v MCP55 SB Core Voltage +1.50 -> 1.56v C51 Core Voltage +1.20 -> 1.26v UR2 Duplex Mode Half -> Full I increased voltages on matching items and actually only increased them in the 1st place b/c of a lot of issues ive read in here about the Mobo having lower settings stock set. Well i figured id do what i did and the system is still stable so i guess i didnt mess anything up yet. Should i increase anything more? Did i make a boo boo that just hasnt snowballed yet? How the heck do i tweak Ram timings... all the labels for things arent as easy to read as 4-4-4-12, lol (4-4-4-12 is what i want, it seems to be a good set from what ive read) Wish me luck, and ill keep tinkering until someone steps in, or i lose stability, or blow my self up.
  7. Ok, well i have it all put together now but are having some major gaming issues. I have all updated drivers for the CPU, MoBo, GPU and network. Ive also installed the Windows dual core hotfix and modified the Reg to make it work as needed. AMD's Dual-Core Optimization program doesnt work for some reason (ie, i dbl clk the .exe and nothing happens...). Now to describe the issue: When i play a game (so far BF2 and MoH:Allied Assault) the game will experience a "lag" spike where it will just freeze for up to 10 sec at a time and then resume the game. This happens both on single and online play and happens regardless of max settings or modest medium settings. I've checked the BIOS as some forums have suggested to make sure the pwr management is doing its job... and basically im stumped. I have no clue why its doing what its doing but it is. Also, im getting a found new hardware prompt to install software for a "Coprocessor". The wierd thing is that both cores are showing up in my hardware profile listings. (sorry about the image size ) I cant find any software anywhere for a Coprocessor and the windows updater cant find anything either. Everyone toss your ideas and ill try em. Ive just installed the two game so i wont be losing anything but time right now, and wont be putting anything else on here 'til its all fixed. Please help me, i bought this compy mainly for gaming and now it looks like my money was just wasted if i cant fix this.
  8. First, if this needs to be merged somewhere for tedious reposting of this type of question.. so be it and i apologize. Well, i have a decent system but plan on putting a new one together consisting of the following: Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G AM2 AMD Athlon X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4 GHz OCZ GameStream 600w PSU GeIL 2GB (2x 1GB) DDR2 1000 (PC2 8200) BFG 7600 GT PCI-e 256Mb Western Digital 80Gb HD (OS HD) Seagate 320Gb 7200.10 HD Lite-On DVD Burner Sony DVD Super Multi I do plan on upgrading the GPU once i get Vista down the road... up to a 8800 GTX and a Phsyx unit, but until then does it also look like ill have some room to OC a bit? Also below is a list of issues im having and REALLY NEED HELP ON... PLZ HELP! **edited**
  9. Hey now, im not showing off, lol, just making use of a credit line i soon hope to get straightened out...credit company is bein' very difficult. I do plan on getting a phase change cooler...maybe not right away, but i will. I DO plan to stick with the X2 4800+ with 2 or 4 gb of ram...at least 2 to start off with. I do plan to cool the GPU's with whatever i can get my hands on, but chances are ill be putting this beast together in phases. Phase I: Basic operating setup...cpu, and Mobo; ram, and hard drive(s); upper-middle class PSU; upper middle class fan setup; 0-moderate overclocking;custom CM Stacker case with all its goodies. Phase II: Gather 2nd copies of GPU, PSU, hard drive(s), ram...etc, and equalize cooling to suit the increased strain... Phase III: Open it up and toss in the best Phase Change cooler i can get my hands on. Phase IV: Start my hefty workout on overclocking the CPU, and maximizing RAM performance. Equalizing cooling as necessary on RAM and GPU's Phase V: Tweak to my wildest dreams and keep it from either exploding or going on a bloody rampage destroying every inferior computer in a 50 mile radius. Theres no way i could raise the whole amount at once to build this thing, but i will definitely keep updates on my progress...though it will be significantly slowed due to my recent move into an apartment...very pricey. DAMN YOU SLOW CREDIT COMPANIES!
  10. All together, ive priced this thing at around 5 grand tops with all the goodies like the phase change cooler and what not. I'm not sure ill have this by October like i wanted but I will have this beast! Oh, and would anyone mind loaning me 5 grand?
  11. No one has still told me why the Lanparty SLI-DR is better than the Lanparty UT SLI-DR. As for RAM, OCZ seems to be getting the most hype, so if it stays that way when im ready to buy, thats what ill get. Oh, and Protagonist, thanks for the link...i dont know how i forgot that place, ive been lookin there alot the past few days. And XGuy, very nice custom job, i was planning on doing something kinda like that eventually, but if i do i doubt it will be that good. One word: DAMN Thanks for the help you all, keep it coming!
  12. Actually, i was wondering if anyone knew of a place to get the whole CM Stacker package. I see alot of places that have the case as one part, the crossflow fan as another (~$30USD), and the 3-to-4 5.3 convertor as another (~$25USD). I did find one site once that had the whole thing as a package, and another that had the option to add them for much cheaper but i cant seem to find them again no matter how hard i look.
  13. I still don't quite get why the Lanparty SLI-DR is better than the Lanparty UT SLI-DR. I've settled on getting the CM Stacker for a case with 600w semi-silent PSU for power until i move on up to the PC Power and Cooling 850 SLI. I'm almost set that the X2 4800+ would last me in the long run, with 2GB or either G.Skill, Corsair, Crucial, or OCZ for RAM. Keyboard and mouse are set for now. Two 7800 GTX's in SLI, along with med/heavy OC'ing to the whole system. Will start off with a nice assortment of fans throughout including upgraded RAM and processor heatsinks. I will Eventually upgrade to water cooling of some kind once the case is all put together and i know how much room i have to spare here and there. I may have to make my own kit to compensate for other custom work i plan on doing to the case. Audigy4 sounds like a winner to me for sound! 80mm fans on the front with 2x120mm fans on the back with the custom fan that comes with the Stacker should be good until i start the OC'ing and toss in the two 7800's. Then ill get RAM coolers and GPU coolers for that. Ill come back here for a pro. how-to on my type of OC'ing once i get the parts. I should start buying them starting this coming Friday once i get my promotion or not...thanks again for all the tips and keep em coming!
  14. How is that Lanparty SLI-DR better than the UT SLI-DR? What major perks would there be to draw me to it? Ive pretty much settled on the black CM Stacker with all its goodies and the PCP&C 850W PSU with a smaller backup possibly. As for a sounds card, there was an add for Audigy in the book for BF2 (which is uber-hot might I add!) and I think that would suit me just fine. I do know that hard-lined stats prove the FX-55/57 to "outperform" the X2 4800+, but I'm looking for long term. With levels of performance and detail that high with processors on current games, you really won't tell a difference unless you have a stat program running concurrent with it just to prove a point. I do usually listen to music while i play games so there...one not so great reason to get the X2. I really just don't want to have to dish out for a dual-core to suit the multi-threaded games when they come out in force. I'd like to high end the single threaded games and be well prepared for the multi-threaded games to come. It looks like this time next year there may be some aforementioned games coming to us. Now...with this setup, how would 2GB of OCZ sound? And which type(s) are good for moderate to advanced oc'ing? If i do get a side viewing panel on the Stacker than i will either get some LED covers for the OCZ or go ahead and get the Balistix Tracers, which are supposed to be very nice. For hard drives, i was thinking about using the 3 to 4 convertor that comes with the Stacker and putting the 80Gb 7200rpm Hitatchi drives in with a extremely custom moded hard drive cooler made from a few i found here and there. I was also going to put watercooling in, and i did find some awesome (though extremely expensive cooling alternative while parausing the net...Extreme Cooling Solutions , you have to check this out!) Thats all i can think of for the moment, but as of Monday, ill know if i got my promotion, and therefor the means to start purchasing this uber-beast. Again, thank you all for you input and keep the ideas coming until its bought!
