  3. Ok I have changed my mind and decided not to tear the sony Vaio apart and just build a pc. I will now just add the radeon 9700 pro, creative sound blaster audigy 2 and geil pc3500 to the parts I ordered below. Any valuable input that I would want to know? This will be the first pc I have built. Thanks in advance. 4. Thanks I have been getting input from other websites and a lot of people are saying I will have to reinstall xp which Im not sure if that is what is on these three system recovery disk that came with the vaio. Others are saying it wont boot to windows because the mobo drivers will be looking to a new mobo. What to do what to do.
  5. Hi I just purchased one (1) Asus Tek P4S8X Socket 478 Motherboard (RETAIL BOX) w/ Audio LAN & Serial-ATA - ASP4S8X and one (1) Enermax CS-3171L-S3A Neon Multimedia ATX Medium Tower Case w/ 350w Power Supply & Side Fan - EN3171LS3A and was wanting to get your opinion on if you think this case and mobo will work with the OEM sony vaio I show below under specs. I plan on just swapping mobo and cases and thats it and expect it to turn right up (after installing bios drivers that came with new mobo (will old bios give me any trouble)? I should just be able to do this bam, bam right? Should I run into any trouble you can see? Will the memory stick and i.link port from original sony vaio pc work with this mobo? Please let me know. 6. 1. Im looking for a motherboard that supports Serial ATA IDE 133 hard drive, ddr400, agp8x, socket 478 for intel 3 gig cpu, at least 3 dimms for 3 sticks of geil pc3500, has good overclocking features in bios . What is a good mobo? 2. How can you tell what case goes with your suggested mobo since most are sold separately, atx, microatx etc.? 3. Since mobos dont give power requirements how can I find correct power supply? Im wanting to put a system together with my three sticks of pc3500, audigy2 sound card and radeon 9700 pro. All I care about is a hard drive that supports serial ide 133 about 80-100 gig, fast cdrw cdrom, 3 gig intel cpu and fast . motherboard @ 533mhz with the features stated above. Can someone help me with these issues? Willing to spend around $1k
  7. I'll check out the Abit IT7Max2 Version 2, does it support ddr400? Also what does this jedec thing have to do with unofficial ddr400 support?? Thanks
  8. I ordered three sticks of geil pc3500 to install in my system and I cant find timing setting in bios to change since this pc is a oem sony. I have come to the conclusion the only way to get these pc3500 ram to work is with another intel based mobo. I want to reuse the 2.4 intel cpu, sound card, video card, power supply, cd rom, dvd player, hard drive. I think the memory stick in my sony will have to go cause I dont know it will work on another non sony mobo. I think I can just buy a compact flash reader for my digital camera. What I want to know is which of these boards will work with the parts I want to reuse without doing any overclocking. All these boards are based on the sis648 chipset and all unofficially support ddr400. First what does unofficially support ddr400 mean? I know ddr400 is for pc3200 but I'm hoping I can stick in my pc3500 and have them default to pc3200. I cant find any pc3500 standard mobo. All mobo I have seen that have pc3550 have been overclocked and I want to stay away from that. Also I will have to buy an operating system right? These boards come with bios and any cd drivers right? Here are the boards, please tell me what you think. 9. I downlaoded the speedfan thing and it didnt have my mobo as an option to oc. Thanks anyway.
  10. I bought 3 sticks of pc3500 and my sony vaio will not allow me change any timing in the bios. In fact there isnt any place in bios to do it. Geil the manufacture of the ram said it would work so I bought it, Buyaib.com the supplier where I bought it will take it back but I lose 15% of what I paid and I lose shipping and handling. I have not got it yet I expect the ram Monday. Sony says they dont support pc3500. I ask if the pc would work with it and the tech said Sony never tried pc3500 which I didnt expect Sony too so I ask if pc2700 would work and he said Sony didnt support it also. I have read and been told the pc3500 is backwards compatible that it could act like pc2700. I can try installing it but again I cant change any ram timing steps because the bios doesnt allow it. Asus website doesnt even have my Asus mobo so I couldnt update the bios if I wanted to. What can I do? Do you think the pc3500 would work? Although my pc is a p4s533 vx I have read that the p4s533 vm can go to pc2700 should I try it since my mobo is realy similar. Please advise.
