  1. Upon further testing I believe I have singled out one stick as being problematic. After completing 6 passes of memtest on the first stick I attempted to do the same on the second stick. At the fourth test on the first pass I began to recieve errors under the same conditions that the first passed under. Somewhat strange as it passed the first time around. I will go ahead and send them back for replacement and hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks everyone for your help.
  2. The prime95 blend test failed within a few seconds with DDR3-1333 @ 8-8-8-24 in dual channel. I looked for a beta bios for the M4A77TD but was unable to find any.
  3. Memtest does not crash with the sticks running in dual channel. It does get quite a few errors, but it does not crash. I have tried running 9-9-9-27 2T as well as lowering them to DDR1333 while in dual channel. The prime95 blend test fails within a few seconds of starting and memtest will get errors. It all seems to go away as soon as I remove one of the sticks though. It's like the two sticks really dislike each other <_< .
  4. About a week ago I ordered a new PC for my girlfriend. The parts are as follows: ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131603 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103674 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231185 GIGABYTE GV-N250-1GI GeForce GTS 250 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814125310 OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341022 Installation was relatively simple and was completed without any problems. After installing Windows XP I noticed some problems while installing things. After looking up one of these problems ( installation issue with Warcraft ) one of the posts pointed towards faulty ram. Consequently I ran memtest 86+ which reported errors on the first pass. I did a quick look over the motherboard manual to confirm everything was properly installed. Both memory sticks were installed in the blue sockets as advised and were running at DDR1600 with the timings of 9-9-9-24 2T @1.5v in accordance with the g.skill recommendations. I then ran memtest on both of the memory sticks individually in both of the DIMM slots ( a total of 4 tests ). All tests passed without any errors. I then ran the blend test in prime95 for 30 minutes with each stick individually. No errors were reported. Basically, the only time I have any errors are while the sticks are both installed. Is there some setting I might be missing that would cause errors while running in dual channel? I have upped the volts a little ( 1.6 ) with no success. The bios has also been updated to version 0504 once again with no success. I am kind of stuck at this point. If any one has any suggestions or knowledge of this kind of problem It would be greatly appreciated as I have spent the last 3 days tinkering and searching with no success.
  5. Unfortunately no. Many times. I've heard some people have problems seating certain cards in some cases but since I never had a problem when I first built and the thing has pretty stable for well over a year so it seems kind of odd.
  6. So last night I'm playing a game and I get a bluish screen(not bsod). I still have sound(I had music playing) but other than that the computer seems to be frozen. I power down and attempt to start back up. I get what I'm pretty sure is 1 long beep and 2 short beeps and the computer doesn't make it to POST. So at this point I start doing some research and according to this "Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly." For my setup I have: Video Card, RAM, CPU, Power Supply, Mobo I did very little messing around with the 8800 and at the time it happened it was running on stock settings. I tried a few things like clearing the cmos but nothing seems to have worked so far. I'll also add that I have been using this setup for over a year now and I haven't had anything like this happen before. So is it time to start looking for a new Video Card or does the problem lie elsewhere? Unfortunately I don't have a spare PCI-E card laying around to test if it is 100% the 8800. Any help is appreciated.

Here's the Newegg wish list: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishli...itle=wish%5Fsys Any compatibility issues or opinions on different parts? I've seen the Asus P5E x38 is also pretty popular. Also wasn't sure if the striker / x38 would have any issues with an e8400 wolfdale so thats why I went with the e6850 for compatibility purposes.
  8. Worked fine after a reformat, guess the repair option is a no with a new motherboard. Thanks for the help man, appreciate it.
  9. Would a complete reformat work just as well? The old hardware may be FUBAR -_-. And how about the LBA/BLK/PIO settings? Just leave them at whatever the BIOS defaults to?
  10. Ah, well let me elaborate a bit. This was an upgrade so when I plugged the hdd in it had an existing install of XP on it. I was able to boot from the CD drive fine and do the first part of the windows XP repair(Yes I have a legit copy) but where it would normally restart and start the second phase of the repair(installing components, drivers, etc) it would restart fine and go to the black screen with the blinking underscore. EDIT: After a bit more messing around with things I'm pretty sure it has to be a conflict with the BIOS/HDD. I would guess its probably auto-detecting it wrong or something of that nature. It has three different modes, LBA, BLK, and PIO. Turning off LBA gets it to change the blinking underscore part to "Unable to load operating system". I ran a repair after that and still nothing though.
  11. (Because I'm not entirely sure what the problem itself is the topic name is kind of vague, sorry.) Alright so basically I upgraded my mom's computer with the following: PC CHIPS M848A (V5.0) Socket A (Socket 462) SiS 746FX ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813185074 AMD Duron 1.6 Applebred 1.6GHz Socket A Processor Model DHD1600DLV1C (No longer listed on newegg) eVGA 256-A8-N313-LX GeForce FX5500 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130197 Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820141423 She doesn't do a whole lot as far as computing so I was going for extreme budget here ----- For the install everything went smoothly, I've built 2 other PC's before and I've never had any problems. Now for the problem itself, the computer seems to start up fine without any errors and normally where you would get the windows loading screen I get a black screen with a blinking underscore. My first guess was that maybe the hdd (Just a normal 80GB IDE HDD. I've tried getting it to run on another PC and I was able to get it work fine.) wasn't being detected but as far as I can tell it seems to be recognizing it. I've tried messing with the boot order and tinkering around with the BIOS a bit but I can't seem to fix it. I've looked at the comments for all the products, googled, and looked at various PC help forums but I can't seem to find anything. Any help is much appreciated
  12. How would I go about doing that?
  13. Long story made short -> My lcd monitor is no longer in working condition, im trying to hook up a TV as a tempory. I seem to have everything in order but the text on the screen is extremely hard to read(im having trouble seeing this and no its not my eyes lol). Anything I can do to fix it? Overscan seems to almost fix the problem but it blows everything off screen.
  14. Alrighty, Should I try putting the MHZ up? running at 200x12.5 right now. Should I lower the 12.5 and start putting the 200 up?
