  1. Hi! I'm want to install CPUCool on my new rig, but I'm having a hard time finding the PLL IC on the mobo to set it up. Anyone know where to look for this on a K8N Neo2 Platinum? Thanks!
  2. Newegg for $225 Don't think anyone else has it in stock right now. You might try eBay. Someone had the 3000, 3200, and 3500 on there earlier.
  3. I just cancelled my order with Monarch and got the 3200+ 90nm from Newegg with the 1 yr warranty. They still have them in stock. I figure if it dies in a year from punishment, I'll probably be able to afford another one by then. Heck, if it OCs to currrent FX speeds, I could buy 3 or 4 for the price of one FX!
  4. An Athlon 64 3400+ in Socket 939??? Saw this on Newegg and called them to ask if they made a mistake or if this was perhaps the 3500+ Winchester simply misentered. They had no idea and said the specs were taken directly from the manufacturer. As far as I know, there is no 3400+ in Socket 939 and I can't find it on AMD's site either. It says they're in stock at Newegg. Anyone had the courage to buy one of these yet and see what it is they're pushing? UPDATED: After talking to AMD...who don't know too much about it (what is it with these people today??? lol), I finally found it on this roadmap: Clicky It is a Newcastle and it is 130nm. Darn...thought I might get my 3500+ without waiting for Monarch.
  5. Same sort of situation here. I ordered my 3500+ 90nm from Monarch last week and talked to someone yesterday. He told me they had 100 of them come in the day before (so...that would be Monday) and that I was about 45th on the list, so mine "is probably on the dock waiting to be shipped". I asked him pointedly --"So, I'm not part of some third wave or waiting for 2 weeks?" and he assured me that my order was being fulfilled and should ship in the next day. Not sure I believe it. I am tempted to give them another call after seeing the ETA change and telling them that I want mine or it's a 3200+ from Newegg for me. UPDATE: Well, I got them on the phone and it turns out the guys was stetching the truth a bit. All the 3500+ 90nm are estimated to come in on the 27th now. He said AMD has not delivered on 4 different processors. I didn't bother to ask why he told his little fib. Making me seriously consider going for the 3200+ now at Newegg -- especially since I've seen reviews OCing this thing like crazy. Think I'll sit on it for a day.....
  6. I'm getting closer to spec'ing out and starting to assemble my system -- mostly for gaming and to start delving into overclocking. Some of the vitals like mobo and CPU are below. But I got thrown recently when I read some threads and articles on anandtech and storagereview.com that say for most desktop computers using a RAID array is a waste. Until i read that, I was pretty set on going RAID 0 with a couple of 80GB 7200rpm Western Digital Caviars -- which would only run me about $130 since my Neo2 has an onboard RAID controller. Now, I'm not sure what to do. I don't plan on doing much (if any) video editing, just gaming and simple apps. If I want to keep my costs for storage under $200, here are my questions: - Is it worth setting up a RAID 0 array? Or are the risks of losing your data if one drive fails too risky? - Would I be better off getting one faster, large volume drive? Or a couple drives to keep the OS and games separate from other files and data (Raptor for 1st drive, something slower for 2nd) that aren't in a RAID array? - Which brand drive should I go with if I do go the RAID avenue? I've read good things about the WD and the cheaper (and supposedly faster) Hitachi drives. Newegg has those for under $65 OEM. Basically, tell me what you would do if you had a system with a pretty fast processor that you were going to OC with 1 gig of memory and about $150-200 to spend on hard drives. Thanks for your help! -UWS
  7. That's the setup I'm working on, too. Now if I could just find an easy bank to rob...
  8. But can I run DDR500/PC4000 on this board? I was under the impression from the manufacturer specs that I needed to stick with PC3200. MSI Neo2 Platinum info
  9. Starting to build my first system around an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ on a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo. I can run dual channel on it, so I want to go with the best gig of memory I can afford -- probably around $300-350. Was looking at Corsair XMS low latency, but does anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks!
