0r4d0 Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I noticed that the benchs (Sandra) of a 533MHz CL4 were quite the same as mines, 400MHz CL3. Is the latency so important ? That's 133MHz of difference I'm making a system for a friend and was wondering if I should get DDR2 PC 4200 CL4, or DDR2 PC5300 CL5. I can always downclock the second at 533MHz CL4, stable, isn't it ??!
Nerm Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Yes, latency is VERY important. That is why I want nothing to do with DDR2 until they figure out how to compensate for those horrible timings.
oralpain Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 DDR2 latency at 4-4-4-12 timings 533Mhz effective clock, is not really any worse than DDR 400 at 3-3-3-8. latency is important, but timings are not latency. Latency factors the speed of the memory, the speed of the memory controler, and the timings memory is using. Recent DDR-2 does compensate for the higher timings, by having a much higher clock speed.
