Video Cards Question

Recommended Posts

As Waco said, but I would also mention the bandwidth over a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot is 15.39GB/s, not 32GB/s. Each lane is 935MB/s IIRC, and a x16 slot has 16 lanes, x8 has 8 lanes and so on.

Even a 690 will not fully max out the PCIe 3.0 x16 bandwidth. The main benefit would be any data that it would transfer would happen quicker, for example a 2GB VRAM dump would take 0.124 seconds instead of 0.248 seconds. Most of the time this makes no difference anyway, as most of the graphical work takes place on the card itself, which uses the GDDR5 bandwidth of a couple of hundred GB/s IIRC. The lanes only transfer commands, loading data etc.

Ya I wish I knew it like I did the past motherboards with PCI-E.

But anyway the PC runs games amazingly, it sucks in cool air and spits out hot air and I'm happy for that.
