P5Kpl/1600 Cpu Coolers

I got a ASUS P5KPL/1600

and I'm looking at a Zalman CNPS10X-FLEX

I think it can fit into my Thermaltake V9 but my problem is the P5KPL which has that ASUS heat sink. I'm wondering if I can mount it sideways to avoid contacting that heat sink. Or can I outright remove that thing
