merovingian Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys I have purchased a pre-built/overclocked system and i'm a little confused as to the actual CPU speed. In the BIOS it reports my i7 950 is set to run at 3.91GHz and CPUZ confirms this clock speed. But I have used 2 independent CPU speed checker tools and they both report actual CPU clock speeds of 4.01GHz The tools I used are http://www.wizard-soft.com/cpuspeed/index.htm and http://www.cpuspeedpro.com/ I tested these tools on other machines and they where always accurate. So is my CPU running at 3.91GHz or 4.01GHz? Pls help an Overclocking noob! Edited April 3, 2010 by merovingian
RJR Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Well, it's a pretty easy formula: Bclk X Multiplier = Clock speed (frequency)
merovingian Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I have done this calculation, Blck 170 multiplier 23= 3.91GHz, But the cpu ultilities are still reading actual clock speeds as 4.01GHz. Is this accurate?

Unless something (like turbo) is changing your multiplier, your OC is 3.91 Ghz. If turbo is kicking in with a 24x multiplier, then it's still wrong, it should read 4.08 Ghz. You should be able to confirm this with CPU-Z, just run a single threaded app like super Pi and see what CPU-Z reports while it's running. Post a Screenshot of the system running ... :thumbs-up:
