i7 Overclock??

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I have purchased a pre-built/overclocked system and i'm a little confused as to the actual CPU speed.

In the BIOS it reports my i7 950 is set to run at 3.91GHz and CPUZ confirms this clock speed.

But I have used 2 independent CPU speed checker tools and they both report actual CPU clock speeds of 4.01GHz

The tools I used are http://www.wizard-soft.com/cpuspeed/index.htm and http://www.cpuspeedpro.com/

I tested these tools on other machines and they where always accurate.

So is my CPU running at 3.91GHz or 4.01GHz?

Pls help an Overclocking noob! :O

I have done this calculation, Blck 170 multiplier 23= 3.91GHz, But the cpu ultilities are still reading actual clock speeds as 4.01GHz.

Is this accurate?

Unless something (like turbo) is changing your multiplier, your OC is 3.91 Ghz. If turbo is kicking in with a 24x multiplier, then it's still wrong, it should read 4.08 Ghz. You should be able to confirm this with CPU-Z, just run a single threaded app like super Pi and see what CPU-Z reports while it's running.

Hi,

I suggest you load the CPU with Prime95 and check how the multiplier fluctuates using CoreTemp.

Post a Screenshot of the system running ...

:thumbs-up:
