ahmadka Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hi guys !! I am interested in buying a laptop (ASUS N70SV-X1 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16834220529), which has 4GB of RAM, and comes with a 64-bit version of Vista. My problem is that I want to use 32-bit Vista on it, since more programs are compatible with the 32-bit version. So is this possble ? Can a 32-bit OS be used on this Laptop ? If yes, would there be any cons in doing this ? Thanks in advance for all the help
hardnrg Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 You'd essentially lose RAM... I've always found that setting programs (the mere few of hundreds I have installed) that won't run in x64, to Compatibility Mode for XP or 98/ME, allows the apps/games to run perfectly. I'd suggest keeping the 64-bit OS
DLS2008 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Almost all programs out there now can run just fine on 64-bit. As hardnrg said, those that have issues usally work with compatibility mode. I would keep the 64-bit unless you know for sure you have an important program that won't run on 64-bit or compatibility mode. lukispuki Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 How about older programs, from 2000? Will they work fine on 64-bit? (example, older Photoshop)
Waco Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Yup.
lukispuki Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 What about the drivers? ex. printer etc.
hardnrg Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Go look on the manufacturer's website for 64-bit drivers... However, a LOT of drivers are built in to the OS... my printer drivers were in Vista x64 already
