Kaedan94 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I just recently purchased a 1GB stick of G.Skill memory with the intention of getting a second stick. I didn't purchase 2 right away because I was concerned about money being spent, but now I know I can afford to get the 2nd stick as well. What I was wondering is if there's gonna be a problem dual-channeling two separately bought sticks instead of getting a 2x1gb kit. As far as I can tell they are the same memory, so there shouldn't be an issue. The mem modules are the red G.Skill ones you can find on Newegg going for $73.99 apiece. The kit is going for $150.99. Hopefully this post makes some sense. any reply would be appreciated.
KimTjik Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 If you can validate that you get modules with the same chip, it shouldn't be a problem. A kit does of course guarantee it will work, but separately bought modules of the same kind should work just as good.
Sharp Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 You should have worried about that before buying the 1st stick. If it does not work you can always ask G.Skill for a replacement/exchange but it should be ok. What series/model did you buy? Kaedan94 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Here's the link to the 2nd stick I bought. The model number on the 1st stick is the same, I just hope the revision isn't different. Good to hear I could send it to them in exchange for a kit if necessary. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231046
