I need a little help guys. Bought a cheap PC for the father-n-law. Turns out the nephew would like to play Minecraft: Minecraft Minimum Requirements: CPU : Intel P4/NetBurst Architecture or its AMD Equivalent (AMD K7) RAM : 2GB GPU : Intel GMA 950 or AMD Equivalent HDD : At least 90MB for Game Core and Sound Files Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 or up is required to be able to run the game. Minecraft Recommended Requirements: CPU : Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz RAM : 4GB GPU : GeForce 6xxx or ATI Radeon 9xxx and up with OpenGL 2 Support (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) HDD : 150MB The PC is I bought was pretty cheap and basic: Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit. Asus P8H61-MX motherboard Intel Celeron Dual Core 2.7GHz 500GB HD 4GB ram 300w PSU I got Minecraft running on low settings but it's pretty sluggish. Unfortunately the PC came with no graphics card. I was wondering if you guys could help me source a graphics card for the 16x PCI-E slot, capable of running Minecraft smoothly but that will run on a 300w PSU? Any suggestions would really help and be appreciated.

Or maybe they don't..

Thanks. Eh babies sleep. Er from time to time.
-
I feel like you know me. haha
-
I'd prefer not to go down this route purely because of the additional costs involved and more so because we have a baby on the way (due on Sunday), so if anything I'm looking for an easy straight swap of processor.
-
Ok cool, and the 2.4 Ghz Q6600 is definitely going to out perform my 3.16 Ghz E8500?

Item ended but there you go: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251077313261?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Another: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110891500923?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Was thinking about the Q9550 too. Looks like I could get a second hand one for around £100 = $154.9. No idea if it's a good CPU or worth the money.
-
What would you suggest be the smallest quad I could go for? Q8000 series or Q9000 series?
-
I think your right Waco, I agree it's time to get a Quad in my machine. Unfortunately one of the newer Intel quad aren't socket 775. I think the best socket I can get is a Q9650, not cheap though.
-
Also I ran this: Can you run it? Although everything passed the minimum spec the E8500 CPU failed the recommended. Some more conclusive info that I need to upgrade my CPU to quad:

Running the same tests as above: 4870 1440 x 900 Low = 34 Med = 33 High = 28 Ultra = 20 7850 1440 x 900 Low = 50 Med = 47 High = 44 Ultra = 35 7850 clearly better however not groundbreaking. Can only assume the core 2 duo is the problem. The main thing that got me with BF3 was the auto detect hardware settings. I can only assume that the game has an issue detecting the 7850 and that's the reason for it setting all the settings lower than the 4870 by default.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Had to go the the in-laws tonight, Posting this from my phone, I will test this tomorrow night hopefully if I'm not back too late. Cheers matey.

Suppose u have a point Waco. However I'm only looking at a 1440x900 res right now. I'm so confuddled right now. Is the card fine and my CPU is the problem or is it down to a setting some place. Arg!!! Lol

The video in the YouTube video I embedded earlier seems to only run a Q9550, only 4 gb of ram at 1066 ghz and the game looks brilliant and looks like it's playing perfectly smooth. It's all too confusing.. Lol
