  1. Everything is at default values; no overclocking. when the games is going my temps are usually about 50, 28, 60,60 +/- a couple degrees. i am using an arctic cooling alpine pro 7( nothing special.) i tried a thermalright ultra 120 E but it didn't do much more than the arctic cooling alpine pro 7 ( brought it down a couple more degrees but the variation was still there). so i returned it figuring it wasn't helping.
  2. So i have a C2Q Q9550. I've owned it for about a month and the retailers warranty is up so i was wonder if i should return the processor to intel for an exchange. The problem with it is the 4 cores vary in temperature a lot. core 2 usually 22 degrees C and cores 3 and 4 usually about 51 degrees C. I have heard that the heatsink may not be mounted correctly but i am sure it is. i even took the mobo out and looked at the other side to make sure the pins were all the way through the other side. When i play certain games they will stop for some reason and i get a message that says "the program has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution". i think it is because the 3rd and 4th cores get too hot and it shuts the game off. What do you think about this? I am thinking about calling intel on monday and asking if i can return the processor for a different one. Have any of you ever had to return a cpu to intel or have a similar problem. Do you have any ideas what could be causing this?
  3. I've reseated the stock cooler a few times using generic thermal paste because that's all i could find in any stores around here. I am buying another heat sink and i'll pick up some arctic silver with it. I only seated the new heatsink once and i used the thermal paste that came pre-applied. Does the entire cpu have to be covered with the thermal paste? I think i did use too much the first time i reseated the stock cooler but the thermal paste came pre-applied to the alpine 7 i bought so i don't think too much paste is the issue.
  4. I've reseated it a few times and i even put a new cooler on, it's not a very good one(arctic cooling alpine 7 pro) but my temps are still high. It did drop them about 3-4 degrees C and when i run prime 95 now the temps don't shoot right up, they take a little while to climb. Could there be ANY other reason that the temps of the cores vary so much? I'm going to buy a high end cooler hopefully that will drop the temps some. maybe the vendetta 2.
  5. Does anyone know why core 1 is at such a lower temp than the other 3? could there be something wrong with the cpu? I should have mentioned before that this is a brand new build and everything is at default settings.
  6. Those little clips on the intel stock heatsink are tricky to get in place but it's sitting pretty tight against the mobo. I'm pretty sure it's mounted correctly.
  7. Cool, thanks. Should i be worried that my temps are so high? i think the processor cuts off at 71.4
  8. I have a q9550 and i'm cooling it with the stock cooler that came with it. The heatsink is no more than 1 inch tall, it's very small. Anyway my temps at idle are: 40, 23, 50 and 50. when i run prime 95 it immediately climbs to 70 C at which point i stop running prime 95 because i'm too nervous the processor will be damaged. Will another heatsink cool this processor better? Any suggestions?
  9. MMA is only a little over 15 years old, and already some fighters are making over a million dollars a fight (when arlovski got ko'd by fedor he made 1.5 mill just to show). I don't think it will be long before MMA reaches the level of pro boxing seeing as how Lesnar is drawing a such a huge fan base from people that watch WWE and affliction's recent involvement with golden boy. I think MMA is far more exciting than boxing and hopefully when about 5 million people buy a golden boy show on PPV and see fedor or belfort knocking someone out or choking someone unconscious they will think so too.
  10. Yeah i think he should have quit too. He announced his retirement after Tito bet him for the third time but i guess it's hard for these guys to quit, they want to feel like they still have what it takes to keep up with the younger guys. Couture as well, not saying he's a bad fighter or anything but he doesn't want to retire either. In fact Randy's one of the best guy's to come back strong after a loss. I look forward to his next fight.
  11. Just found this http://sherdog.com/news/news/War-Gods-The-...ight-Card-15848 Ken Shamrock is co-promoting it. i guess the only way he can get a fight is to pay for the show himself Tank's fighting too, much the same can be said about him but i always liked his style and look forward to see how this one goes down.
  12. Penn's corner stopped the fight between the 4th and 5th round because Penn couldn't continue. GSP crushed him. Penn should stay in the LW division, he's too fat at WW. Jones looked great, that spinning elbow was sick! I'm a little upset that Karo won though, I never liked him or Manny.
  13. He was in WEC first and then got a shot on TUF 5 and won. He's been in the UFC since.
  14. It was a split decision but IMO both are very different fighters now. St. Pierre focused a lot more on wrestling since his loss to Serra and Penn calmed down a lot and tries to fight a smart fight now compared to his earlier fights, though he can still be an explosive fighter so i'm not counting him out entirely. I think that St. Pierre is on a different level than Penn, and he's going to make Penn look like a novice. tko or ko no later than the 2nd round.
  15. post your thoughts then. Who's going to be the welterweight king?
