  1. Yeah, I knew that it was getting to the point that the only obvious option was that, I was trying to avoid that at all costs because I paid about $150 for this drive several years ago at Fry's and man, my wife's gonna freak! She already is rather put out with how much money I've spent on my rig, then to tell that this? I might as well start getting used to living in the :dog: house. Guys, that's for all your help.
  2. Update, I've tried moving it to my Secondary IDE port using a Sata to IDE Converter card and I still get the BSOD. The system will boot fine and work normal as usual until I go to insert a CD Rom, then BSOD. Not sure if I have to change any other settings in the BIOS. Any ideas? I even tried bringing all my clock settings back to stock just in case the overclock had any affect, still BSOD.
  3. Can't, I have my Raid configured on ports 1 & 2 and don't want to even touch that. I was lucky to get it configured right the first time. I've gone ahead and ordered a Sata to IDE converter from Newegg so that I can use my secondary IDE as suggested.
  4. Presently my Plextor drive is connected to the #4 Sata port on the mobo, which according to the manual if I'm reading it right, is supported by the nForce 3 Ultra chipset. The Plextor manual says that the data interface needs to support the ATAPI Command set; so the question becomes does the nForce 3 Ultra chipset support the ATAPI Command set? I went to the Nvidia website and viewed the information for nForce 3 and did not see anything that indicated this support. I submitted a question to their tech support anyway so we will see. Am I off base here or am I on the right track?
  5. I think I may have found my answer, I won't know until later tonight. This is an except from page 49 of the owners manual. " Your PX-716SA ships from the factory with no DMA jumper installed. (The pins are empty.) The empty pins mean the drive is set to Ultra DMA. This setting should work in most cases, so you don’t have to do anything more. With some personal computers that do not have an embedded non-RAID Serial ATA chipset, the computer may “hang” or crash with the PX- 716SA installed. If this happens, change the PX-716SA to multiword DMA mode by installing the spare jumper across the two DMA jumper pins." I will check this tonight and report back tomorrow.
  6. I have the DFI NF3 Ultra-D (939) mobo and a Plextor 716SA DVD burner drive and almost everytime, (8 out of 10) I put a blank disc into the drive my system gets the BSOD. The error messages from microsoft indicates that's its the antivirus but that is bull, it does it with our without the antivirus enabled. It only happens when the drive tries to read a blank disc but not everytime, usually 80% to 90% of the time. Trouble shooting I've already tried: Double checked the blank discs: I have placed these same blank discs into other PCs and the DVD drive will read them fine, even though they are blank. Cableing: I have already replaced the Sata cable which made no difference. Firmware: I just this morning tried going back to a previous version of the firmware, from 1.11 to 1.09, no help. Driver: No special drivers installed, uses Windows native drivers. Here is what the Plextor specifications say: Interface Serial ATA 1.0 (Generation 1). Must support ATAPI command set. Do the Sata ports on the Ultra-D 939 support this command set? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Tepabajo
  7. I have that same burner on a DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D 939 board and it works flawlessly. Cheers
  8. I am building a Raid 0 Non-bootable configuration and need to install the drivers and I'm seeing alot of information about how many problems the SW IDE drivers are causing, what is the current practice? I've seen some posts from guys suggesting installing the Windows XP Raid drivers from the 6.86 Nforce chipset for NF4 mobos, does this work better? They would be: WinXP IDE SataRAID Driver (v6.66) WinXP IDE SataIDE Driver (v6.66) WinXP RAIDTOOL Application (v6.66) Also, in the Phoenix bios under the Enable Raid IDE screen the options for Sata are: Sata Primary Sata Secondary Sata 2 Primary Sata 2 Secondary If I want to use Sata ports 1 & 2 which of these should I enable? My guess would be Sata Primary and Sata 2 Primary? I have downclocked my system back to Optimal settings so overclocking won't be a factor. Stumped tonight. Thanks Tep
  9. After I got home tonight I found what I thought was the dual boot option. I can hit ESC during boot up and it brings up the Boot First menu, this is what I saw previously but didn't read the heading, my mistake. Thanks anyway.
  10. I remember seeing at one point an option in the bios to allow me to have two C drives on my system and it would give me the option during boot up which one I wanted to use? Was this just my imagination or is this real? I want to use this feature while setting up my Raid.
  11. Considering that the Marvel chip supports the Sata 1 & 2 ports and apparently there are problems caused by overclocking, if I use Sata 3 & 4 for my Raid 0 configuration would my DVD drive work on Sata 1 or 2?
  12. Joop, not sure you understood. I saw an email come through from a guy named Joop that is resigning after 5 years with my same employer, and guess what, he also lives in the Netherlands just as your profile says. Either there are a bunch of dudes named Joop that live in the Netherlands or you and I work for the same company. I'm really curious so let's take this offline. Shoot me a PM.
  13. Joop, I was at work the other day and saw this email come through with the same name from the same country, could it be? Shoot me a PM.
  14. Pardon me if this question does not make sense. What is the value of the two unlockable Sata ports? Can they be used with SataII drives to use the 3.0gps bandwidth?
