  1. Would this lcd tv be close to as good as this monitor (using the tv as a monitor) for everyday multitasking and movie watching? Both have a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 5 ms response, and 1680 x 1050 resolution. Insignia 22" LCD tv vs. Samsung 2253BW Its only $50 more to get a TV tuner which would be sweet for my dorm room next year.
  2. I'm not going to get the 17" version cause it seems too big. However, the 15" doesn't seem like it would be a pain at all to carry around and it only weighs 5.4 lbs. I do plan on taking course notes on it. My choice also isn't anywhere close to being set in stone. I'm still shopping around and open to other choices (I've been looking at some of the Sony VAIOs and Thinkpads). I just wanted to see what other people thought and appreciate all the input.
  3. I agree its a lot of money. Frankly I hadn't planned on spending that much but I've been saving and my mom said she was planning on chipping in so I figured why not. I really don't want to spend more than that price on the macbook. I'm not bringing a desktop. I'm stuck in a triple next year so I don't expect much room. Also, any particular reason those people regretted getting a more expensive laptop? Just curious.
  4. I'm doing the college laptop shopping and need some advice. I've never been a mac person. I've always thought OS X was hyped up too much and that macs were way overpriced. But recently the Macbook Pro has seriously caught my attention. The 15" 2.4ghz model is available for $1750 (student discount) and that includes a free iTouch which I can't help but want. Figured I'd throw in another 2 gigs of ram myself since they insist on charging $200, install XP, and it would make a pretty sweet machine that I can do light gaming on. MBP I'm willing to spend up to around $2000 and just want to know if there is something else that I should be looking at. I know Intel just released their new mobile cpus but don't know what to do. I know I don't want anything bigger than 15" and want to be able to do light gaming. Any input is appreciated.
  5. Yeah I'm officially stuck when trying to boot from the CD drive to reload windows. I've removed the floppy drive, disabled it in the bios, set the only boot devices as the CD drive and HDD and it still doesn't work. I've reset the bios, cleared the CMOS, changed jumpers, tried different IDE cables, and still get the disk A error mentioned before. I'll maybe try one different CD drive later before I decide I'll offer to sell my teacher a slightly better computer for dirt cheap (an old P4 system I have lying around) or something hahaha.
  6. Alright I'll mess around for a while. Normally I wouldn't worry this much, its just that this is a teachers PC.
  7. It does post. And it even gets to the screen that says windows didn't load properly last time, but whenever I choose an option to continue it just freezes. I already tried a different CD drive and with no luck. Does dell have some lock on their bios that prevents the installation from the CD that was not provided w/ the computer?
  8. I couldn't figure out what the problem was so I just put the hard drive inside another computer and reinstalled windows on it. Problem is now when I try and boot from this hard drive in the original computer it won't load. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
  9. I'm trying to reinstall windows on an old Dell dimension 4100 (its for a teacher of mine) but can't seem to get it to boot from the install disk. I've gone into the bios and changed the boot order but nothing is working. If I disable everything but the CD drive I get a error saying invalid boot diskette Please insert diskette in A: I'll try a few things but this is really frustrating. Any help is appreciated especially since this is for a teacher.
  10. I would highly recommend an Alpine type-r. I have a 1222D myself and love it. Its powered by a hifonics amp which I would also highly recommend. In terms of installing, if you can build a computer you can install car audio components. Now this is coming from someone who owns an old corolla which is pretty easily taken apart. Your 2000 Sebring might bring you more trouble. Personally after you get some responses from around here I'd check out caraudioforum.com or caraudio.com and ask around there as well.
  11. Double checked with my friend and he has a dimension 4600: P4 2.8 512 Mb (he might have gotten 1 gig) 1 CD drive + 1 DVD drive 80gb hdd fx5200 ultra Basically I don't think he wants a new computer right now being as though he'll be getting a new laptop for college next year, so if there is any graphics card upgrade thats worth the money? I think he wants to play Left 4 Dead in November so hes looking for a cheap upgrade. Also should a start a new post if I want to run some specs by for that $500 upgrade I mentioned earlier or can I just do it here?
  12. Guess that would make sense since its a 300 watt psu
  13. I'll ask him tomorrow for the exact model number so I can give the specs. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've never ran across ATX300. Is that the small form factor that would fit in his dell case? Edit - My sister is basically doing the same thing as my friend except just with an HP. I'm gonna do what you mentioned bleeble except I'd get myself a new $500 cpu, ram, mobo, and vid card combo and give her my rig for like $100. Problem is I don't think my friend wants to spend that much money but I'll run the same idea by him.
  14. My friend has a couple year old dell desktop and wants to get a new video card. The problem is the psu only puts out 250 watts. He needs an agp card so he was thinking of a 7600gt which I thought would be a nice bump up from his current fx5200, especially for the price. However, the 7600gt in particular (an XFX) claims to need a minimum of a 350 watt psu. Now I've heard this card only uses something around 36 watts, so could his current psu handle it?
