  1. In case its of any use to someone, I overwrote the backup BIOS (alt f10 on boot) with the main BIOS (F18i) and it now appears to be mostly working, clearly just an issue with this board though, and gigabyte boards in general from what I have read online.
  2. Just to update this, it worked ok for a day or so, on bios F18i Now every time I cold reboot, on first attempt to POST it fails then reboots and boots to the factory (2nd) bios which wont work with the gtx 970 as that bios is too old and doesn't contain the necessary VGA compatibility update. So unless I can either force it to boot into the first bios properly or I'll need a new board... fs :/ So basically now, I have to re flash the bios reboot and then it works the first time, subsequent reboots go to the 2nd bios. I don't understand why it fails to boot into the new Bios and there's no way to find out as far as I am aware. Any idea's?
  3. Turns out I needed the latest Beta BIOS, just got it working on F18i, thanks for the tip though
  4. I got a zotac 970(2x6 power) last week (upgraded from 7950 (2x6 power) and have been having issues with it, the box it came in was beat up so I was thinking it was the card was at fault. I then bought an ASUS GTX strix 970 (1x8 power) today to see and its doing the same thing sadly :s When I boot up it shows the gigabyte bios screen and goes no further, I cant press del to get in etc either. Strange thing is that sometimes when I re-seat the 970 it will randomly work after a few reboots, it seems like its detecting new hardware everytime, I as of yet have been unable to determine what it is I am doing that gets it to work. I put the 7950 back in and it booted first time and works fine. So i'm thinking along the lines of mobo, psu, bios at the moment but would like some ideas as to what you guys think it could be? Specs: I have a 700w beQuiet straight power PSU. Gigabyte GAZ77X-d3h Mobo. F16 Bios 3570K 16gb RAM
  5. I was cleaning out my case and decided to have a look at the Karajan unit, somehow it was not seated right, so im assuming that it had somehow been moved/shifted like 1 mm and that was the cuase, I had to reinstall the drivers though to get the mic to work, oh well at least its fixed. thanks for the help.
  6. You can only use 1, 2 or 4 sticks, 3 will not work, I had the same problem when I first built my comp, its a pita, but its how it was made. edit: Is it actually possible then? because I asked in here way back when I initially built my comp and was told it couldn't be done? I really hope I haven't been running without an extra stick for a year for nothing
  7. I regularly use programs like teamspeak2 and ventrilo so my voice comms are important, but I can not troubleshoot out what and where my current problem is occurring. Basically my mic has just spontaneously stopped picking up any sounds, it was working one day and not the next with no changes at all from me (I wasn't even at the computer and it wasn't on), I tested the actual mic on another computer and it works fine, and its not the actual voice applications because I ran the hardware test and it's not receiving any sound either. So the next thing along the line I can think of is the sound port, I know the little sound "cube" is separately added on to the motherboard and im wondering if this has somehow been partially broken. The sound out is working fine, I have played music etc through it, so im pretty much at a loss as to what is causing the problem, so im hoping some one on here has an inspirational idea on what it may be. Thanks in advance, Neural.
  8. The PSU thing on here is quite annoying tbh, its completely overstated and generally sounds like a "cover their butt" requirement rather than an actual nessesary one, much like the 24 pin imo. The Antec is fine, as long as a PSU is a decent make and has a decent 12v rail of about 18 A or more its fine, 430W would be as low as I would go with the components you have though. BTW its always the people that have PC and P, seasonic etc 550w, 600w+ etc that say "oh your PSU isn't powerful enough" its generally a justification to themselves spending more than is nessesary on a PSU, although granted some people may actually need that much if they have raid, SLI, watercooling, etc. As for your ram, I have a similar problem, only I can't boot with 3 sticks, the board only does, 1, 2 or 4 (supposedly)
  9. Well they are the same stuff, just different sizes, meh I will run 768 in single mode for now. Few other things though, pc has a small whine, and its not the fans cuase I stopped all of them, so it must be the HDs or possibly the PSU although from listening it doesn't sound like either. Does the board make any noise, like electricity flowing through it or something, cuase its the only audible noise I can hear and its pretty annoying.
  10. What if I bought another 512 stick of the corsair, would that then be dual channel with 4 sticks and 1.5GB?
  11. Hmm well I already tried this before but I was gonna try again incase I missed something, although you saying it doesnt work with 3 sticks seems to be what i thought intially but just wanted to check. I don't see why the big powerful DFI boards can't support 3 sticks and an old nf2 board could... Are there any bios's that can support 3 sticks or is it just the way teh board is designed?
  12. Ok thanks Ill give a try and let ya know. This ram is from my previous comp btw which it ran in dual, I didnt see any complications porting it to this comp and I wll be getting 2x1GB sticks soon'ish anwyays.
  13. A refurb from anywhere really, they all have the same clauses, you should always if possible try to find out the condition of what you are ordering is anyways.
