  1. I spoke with OCZ tech support and they walked me through a BIOS setup and diagnostics. We determined the memory is not the issue. I plugged in an Asus SLI A8N with all the existing components and cannot repeat the problem. The Asus board works great. As a result it has to be the mobo. RMA in prgress. Thanks, Kevin
  2. I contacted DFI USA and left a message for Lee in tech support asking for an RMA. Can anyone comment on how long it may take for a response and turnaround time for the RMA process? I have tried to solve the probalem I am having here, but have been unsuccessful. I can only assume I got a bad board. Thanks. Original thread... http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ighlight=freeze
  3. Using Ntune was not so much to see if it helped (if it did I wouldn't complain), but to determine if a change occurred with the problem I am trying to solve. By using Ntune and seeing that it made the problem occur more frequently causes me to believe the issue is likely isolated to the mobo. If my settings are correct or at least consistant with DFI standards, and I have tried other video cards, and the problem persists, I can only conclude it is the mobo..... Will DFI swap me out a new one?????????
  4. That being said, I am having significant system freeze at those temps. I am continually looking for an answer that is why I am in this thread...see my thread here for a full description of my problem. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ighlight=freeze I have tried running Ntune to optimize the bios settings, but that only increases the problem. This seems to indicate to to me the problem is occurring as a result of the mobo, it's settings, or it's heat. When I go into Bios I reset to factory defaults and it still freezs during game play. My only conlclusion is that the board is bad... The problem has occurred with two different video cards.... I even put a fan in pointing down on the chipset. Short of switching to an ASUS platform I don't know what else to do.
  5. I read in another thread that someone with the same problem thought it to be a memory issue? I am still stumped on this, my only conclusion is the mobo is bad? Dare I buy an Asus?
  6. I'll check on that and make sure it is off. I am pretty sure I turned it off when I adjusted the fan control. Also, here is an Everest Report on my hardware if that helps. http://www.kdonoghue.net/report.htm Thanks Edit: K8 Cool & Quiet Support was/has been disabled and has not helped.
  7. I know temp issues have been addressed in many different threads. I have commented on a problem I have been having in some of those threads, but still have not been able to solve it. I built the system listed in my sig anf did not have any real problems to speak of. At first I noticed the 6800 PCI-E graphics card was getting real hot. I got myself an arctic cooler and screwed up bad during the install. It's never good when capacitors fall off the circuit board. Long story short, I ended up buying a 7800 card. I hate five hundred dollar mistakes, it makes it seem like all the steps I took to save money were fruitless. Anyway, the problem I face now is that when I am gaming, after about an hour of gaming, my system starts to freeze for about five seconds at a time. This occurs about every ten minutes or so and contiues until I stop gaming. It appears to be doing it when the screen is very busy with animation. I initally thought the chipset was too hot. So I changed the BIOS so that the board fans are alway at full power. I also added a fan to the side of the case blowing fresh air down onto the board. This has not made a difference. This problem occurs when I play Battlefield 2 and Black Hawk Down. BF2 is a demanding game, but black hawk down shouldn't be since it is a couple of years old. I am not overclocking, the CPU stays stable at 38 degress celsius. When gaming the board temps climb over 50 degrees, but I have been told this is normal. If anyboad has anything else I should try, I am open to any and all suggestions. It may not be the board temps, could it be HD temps from the SATA raid??? It is driving me nuts. Thanks everyone, Kevin
  8. I am wondering the same thing. With Everst, it reports a motherboard temp at 50-51 and a Northbridge temp at 46-48 while gaming. My problem is that every once in a while, and only after gaming for about an hour, the system freezes. It will freeze for about five seconds then resume. All of my running apps lock, and then resume a few secs later.... really really weird? I am guessing it is a temp thing, but dont really know for sure. I tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers and BIOS yesterday, but the problem still exists. When not gaming the temps are in the low 40's and high 30's..... any thoughts????
  9. You can find that in the MSDN Knowledge Base under the heading, "Weird, wacky, kooky, s*&%t.... I mean stuff."
  10. FWIW... I got an Enermax 600W Silent PSU and am very happy with it. The main Pro is that it is almost silent, the Con is that it is a bit expensive. ENERMAX All in One Noisetaker Series EG701AX-VE SFMA(24P) 600W Power Supply Added: Of course they add the $30 rebate after I by mine.
  11. Who did you piss off? I was confusing Iceland with that radar tower in Greenland I have been threatened with. Thanks for the reassurance on the chipset, this is my first step off the Intel platform. When I am not gaming I do forensics for Govt and had the chance to play with many of the Opterons. As far as work apps go so far so good, now if only Win XP 64 was more stable.
  12. Hey Poppy thanks for the heads up on the Sig, I noticed the sig rule in another thread but all that was mentioned by the mod was to read the rules. When I registered for the account I actually looked for the reference to the sig rule to learn about it before I posted, but I didn't see it.... Anyway, I am sure it was staring me in the face. The only reaon why I thought it was higher than normal was because the Nvidia monitor by default was alerting me to the temps. I ordered an Arctic Cooling system for the vid card hoping that takes away some of the heat. I would like to try an OC, but can't affford to burn anything up.
  13. I built this computer this past week and have noticed higher than normal chipset temps. I have been googling for answers and that is how I ended here. The CPU remains at 38c with stock fan and no overclocking, the chipset hits 55c at times, but idles at 45c. The rig is a DFI Lan Party NF4 SLI DR with an Athlon FX-55, two gigs OCZ PC3200 Ram, LeadTek Nvidia 6800 GT (single, not SLI), (2) WD 74 gig Raptors in a Raid 0, inside of a Silverstone aluminum case. The case has a 80mm exhaust fan and a smaller fan (not sure on size) pulling air in over the hard drives. One thing I have noticed is that the rear of the video card lays on top of the heatsink and cooling fan for the Nvidia chipset. Any ideas or directions is appreciated, inthe meantime I will be looking through the threads here for more info. Thanks ADDED: Here are links to screen shots from Everest if that helps, if I am being a spaz please let me know. Everest Screen Shot 1 Everest Screen Shot 2
