you still looking for one? I'm upgrading my system and I planning on selling off my Gigabyte EX58-UD4p. I'll prob be selling off the rest of the rig too : OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model ... Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base and 5 Heatpipes intel i7 920 (woops, should have read the previous post, I misread as well. Well still thinking of selling off the stuff anyhow)

What platform should I go with

Thanks for all the advice. I have a gigabyte ud5(i forgett the rest of part numbers). I actually looked into the Xeon on the board, but I decided that I would do a bit of an overall upgrade (while my wife allows it). Im about 3-4 weeks out so I'll keep an eye on the prices. Thanks again -

Yes, I noticed that with my last Intel build that I could not upgrade due to the change in slot. Looks like I'll be leaning towards the am4 then. Any recommendations on a solid mb around the 200 USD range? (That is for the advice by the way) -
What platform should I go with
Muskie replied to Muskie's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
It does not require compiling at the moment, but it will in the future. I'll be working on a grant that hopefully should open up a few more doors, but there is no guarantee at the moment. Therefore I am hoping to put something together that can do everything I need (within reason). -
I just hit a physical limit with my current build and need to invest in a new cpu, mb and memory. I currently have an i7 920 on an x58 mb and 6gb of memory, but I am starting to develop some vr applications for some research I am working on. Since my system specs cannot cut it for the oculus rift, I am looking to upgrade. I have not been keeping up on much more than graphics cards so i am trying to figure out the best platform and processor to go forward with. Im in between the lga 1151, 2066, or the AM4 and I'm hoping to spend around $600 for the 3 componants. So for vr applications, some solidworks, and a bit of gaming, what is reccomended? Any advice would be helpful since I'm finding many if the reviews I am reading are from fanbois and I can't filter out the bias.
