Is This A Video Card Problem?
tharealmegaman replied to tharealmegaman's topic in Video Cards and Monitors
I understand that I don't have the 128MB. But shouldn't it run anyway? Just really poorly? I was planning on minimum settings anyway. -
Is This A Video Card Problem?
tharealmegaman replied to tharealmegaman's topic in Video Cards and Monitors
64MB ati x700. Sandra says 64MB with 246MB shared. Does that mean it's sharing ram or something to double as video memory? -
I just got Neverwinter Nights 2, installed, and when I run it, a black screen that never loads shows up. On some attempts, I get a warning that says since my video card has less than 128mb of ram, it won't run optimally. I click ok, and it just closes the program. What gives? Someone on another forum told me it's a directx problem but I don't trust people on that forum the way I trust people here. Hah. Any clues? Thanks.

A friend of mine is building a computer for a first time and is having trouble getting it to fire up. This machine is using 2 7650gts' or 7950gts' in SLi. I forget. He says everything is connected properly, extra pci-e power is plugged in, bridge is on the cards, etc. The monitor does in fact work. He starts it and the lights turn on, fans start spinning, but there's no video output. Keep in mind I'm yet to see the thing in person so I'm not too sure on the particulars, but assuming everything is plugged in correctly, what could the problem be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunatly, it wasn't a one time thing. It happens on every startup now. I even ran spyware and virus scans and nothing came up. I deleted any startup scripts I had and no-go. Its frustratingly slow on startup. Sometimes I need it to start up right away and it won't. Not to mention its embarassing at a tech school. It runs just as fast as it always did after starting up, however.

I'm very familiar with msconfig, and that's not the problem. I'm only running a few things on startup like gmail notifier, microsoft antispyware, and some laptop functionality processes.
-
The other day, I started up my laptop and it loaded windows just as fast as it normally would, but it started to hang halfway through loading the startup programs. It eventually loads everything, but its taking maybe 5 minutes to get there. Before, it would go from off to totally started in under a minute, so you can understand how frustrating this is for me. I have no clue why. Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies guys. Ok so I read everything I can about it and I guess I am forced to go and buy a floppy drive. Is it normal to not even show up as a boot option though? It'll just show up after I install the drivers and windows? -

No floppies. A cd, however. But I don't have a floppy drive anyway. I'll go browse that now. -feels nooby- edit: so I pushed F6, but like I said, no floppy and no floppy drive. what should I do? -
This is my first build using a SATA hd. I plugged the SATA wire from the WD 80gb caviar to my MSI neo2. I fire it up and under the boot order option in bios, the only thing that shows up is the optical drive. I try to install windows and that doesn't recognize the hd either. Yes, I plugged the power in. I even tried 2 different SATA wires and no-go. Is it just a bad unit or is there something about SATA that I don't know?

Compound Or No Compound?
tharealmegaman replied to tharealmegaman's topic in Overclocking and Cooling
thanks for all your replies. I'm going to attempt to remove it with a credit card this morning. How difficult is this? How long does it take? Does it have to be -absolutely- clean? -
Compound Or No Compound?
tharealmegaman replied to tharealmegaman's topic in Overclocking and Cooling
Ok, so I checked the bottom of the sink and there's a grey square which I'm guessing is pad. Do I have to remove it? If so, how? -
I picked up a P4 2.4a Prescott but it didn't include any thermal compound. I heard of newer cpu's using thermal pads or something like that. I wouldn't know what it looked like if I saw one. Should I still put some ceramique on this thing?
