  1. Well, I went ahead and ordered that "583077-001" DDR# 1066 FSB Laptop Motherboard. I am pretty sure now that it at least has ATI Radeon 4xxx series GPU with 512MB dedicated memory. Wish me luck! I am going to tear down My Hp ProBook 4710s today. It has no back access panels, so I have to go in from the top. I will let you all know if everything succeeds. I have also been looking at some new Lenovo, MSI, and other 17.3 Laptops to put the new components in just in case.
  2. It could be a 4570? My current HP ProBook 4710s (HD4330) has the same M92 RV710 5nm "code" "model" and "fab" according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Mobility_Radeon_HD_4xxx_Series And yes it's a pretty desperate attempt to get more life out of my 5 year old laptop. However, it has a backlit LED display with a Blu-ray rom multi & memory upgradeable to 8GB. I don't Game, but I use some pretty CPU and memory intensive software. In the last month I have picked up the following compnents so far: WD Black2 Dual Drive 2.5" 120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD $220 LG Electronics BT20N Blu-Ray Burner Writer Optical Drive $70 Komputerbay 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 SODIMM (204 pin) 1333MHz PC3-10600 8 GB $70 Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T9600 - 2.8GHz (Penryn-MV, 1066MHz front side bus, 6MB total Level-2 cache, Socket Micro-FCPGA, 35W TDP) $120 So far that's $480. Add the one of the 583-077-001 motherboards I'm looking at and I'm at: 583077-001 Free Shipping Laptop motherboard for hp 4411S 583077-001 intel Non-Integrated PM fully tested 60 days warranty $132 So I'm at $630 total. I would probably be best just to get a new laptop, but I have torn the 4710s apart before just to replace the HDD when I put in a Seagate Hybrid 500GB HDD. So, a lot of it is the personal challenge to see if I can do it and make it work. It's also because I don't think I could find a new 17" Laptop with a blu-ray burner, 8GB memory, 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD, plus a decent processor for under twice the cost of doing the upgrade. It may be foolhardy in that the whole thing could fail right off or even just a few months downthe road, but I figured it would be fun to try. If it does fail I will at least have the ne WD Black2, 8GB DDR3 1333, and Blu-ray burner to put in a new Laptop.
  3. Hi Yall, A big hello as I have not posted in quite a while. I am having trouble identifying ATI GPUs on Laptop Motherbords. Some Laptops have Non-Integrated CPUs and GPUs that can be upgraded. Some have integrated BGA (ball grid array) embedded GPUs that can't be upgraded. In addition, I can't figure out how to identify what GPU a laptop has; because the ATI chip on the laptop motherboards use numbers like this one on a DDR3 motherboard for my HP ProBook 4710s... The ATI chip ID: ATI 0?52 MADE IN TAIWAN PIM765.00 216-0728020 Specifically, I can't figure out what ATI Radeon Mobility series the last number "216-0728020" refers to. Like is it a 4xxx series or 5xxx series GPU. I am upgrading my HP ProBook 4710s. I am upgrading it from a DDR2 motherboard: "AW997US" with an integrated (un-changeable) CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T6570 - 2.1GHz (Penryn-MV, 800MHz front side bus, 2MB total Level-2 cache, Micro-FCPGA socket, 35W TDP, 45nm)... Upgrading to a non-integrated DDR3 motherboard: "NZ688AA" which can use several different CPUs. I purchased the CPU: "Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T9600 - 2.8GHz (Penryn-MV, 1066MHz front side bus, 6MB total Level-2 cache, Socket Micro-FCPGA, 35W TDP)". I got the CPU from "Ambry.com". The motherboard part number I need is:"583077-001" I have found quite a few available in the $130-$150 price range, but only a couple list the GPUs. The GPUs that are listed with some of the 583077-001 motherboards are like the number above: 216-0728020 I have searched everywhere for several days on the web but can't figure it out. The ATI chip looks similar to this: http://img02.taobaocdn.com/bao/uploaded/i2/T16VlFFBtXXXXXXXXX_!!0-item_pic.jpg Does anyone know what ATI Graphics line or series 216-0728020 refers to?
  4. Nyt Ryda, What do you mean: "My Display Settings".? I'm running Win7 64.
  5. It took some time, but I found that how you "label" an HDMI input changes which "format" options are available (and pixel per mapping)... Labeling the HDMI connection anything but "PC"- of course!- lets me choose "automatic" as the "format" option, but there is still a 1/2 inch black frame around the screen/desktop where there is none with other sources. I found the manual online for my set which is actually a 2007; unfortunately, it doesn't mention the above or anything useful.
  6. Hey all, I built a new desktop using ATI 5830's in cross fire. I can't figure out how to get things adjusted so that the "picture" fills the whole screen on my 2008 Phillips 47' 1080p set hooked up via HDMI. These are my first ATI cards. With Nvidia, I always just used the "adjust desktop 'sliders'" to fix it so the picture fills the whole screen. I have tried all available screen "format" modes on the HDTV, so I'm pretty sure it's not the set. I have tried using the ATI drivers that came with the cards and the 2 most recent releases on AMD's site. 1090T @3.8GHz G. Skill 8GB 1333MHz Foxconn 790GX Sapphire HD-5830 Extreme x 2 I can't find anything like Nvidia's "sliders" in the Catalyst Control Center. Other ATI display settings have not worked either. Any ideas?
  7. Since MS will be offering it for Upgrade from all XP, Vista, and Win7 versions for $39.95 for a limited time, I think I'll buy it for all my 5 PC's as long as I can burn a functional .ISO disk of the download that's not time limited (for instal). I hope the "paint sample" Metro tiles will eventually be Re-Skinable by users.
  8. Windows Gadgets and working links to Gadgets can still be found at this site: http://www.thoosje.com/vista-sidebar-gadgets-gallery.html Windows METRO on first impressions looks nauseating to me... The screen hogging tiles look like ugly "Paint Samples" that make me feel like puking. They look like they were designed by Microsoft's Day Care. They could be Cool if you could change their skins to say Pics of your choosing. The fact that MS is trying to "Force" people into using Metro by not supporting Gadgets anymore does not bode well for Win 8. The "security risk" argument by MS concerning Gadgets is pathetic as numerous Gadgets have proven track records of years.
  9. Problem Solved: Bad OS... Bad original formats. I finally took the drive and hooked it up to a SATA port on my desktop PC... The drive was instantly found, and I did a format with Partition Mgr. & the OS. Took drive back and slapped it in my HTPC. Win7 installed in 12 minutes. Man this OWC Mercury Electra is sceaming fast-no more welcome screens!
  10. I just tried doing an OS Win7 install after attaching the drive to one of the mobos SATA channels.... Tried starting install in windows... The install disc does not even show it in the Disc window where you choose the drive where you want to install windows.
  11. I bought an OWC Mercury Electra SATA 6 120GB SSD. Also a Highpoint SATA 6 PCIe card that I have the SSD hooked up to. I formatted the SSD with NTFS. I turned on AHCI. With my other C:\ drive running WIn7, the SSD is recognized as a Drive. But when I disconnect the old C:\ Drive and start to run the OS Disc to start the new install on the SSD I can only get to the screen that says: "Upgrade or Advanced-new install". When I click on "New Install" the next screen says "it sees no hHDD" when I click next. This is my first SSD. http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity|1&Ne=5000&N=6403&Ntt=Mercury+Electra+6G+120GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115072 I did update the drivers for the Highpoint SATA 6 PCIe card. Thanks for any advice.
  12. They seem to have really good prices even after you add in Shipping and Insurance. However, they are in Indonesia. Oops... Here's Link http://www.grahacomputerindo.com/categories/Computer-Components/
  13. Finally got it working!! MSI says Enable Nvidia Core calibration for overclocking... I DISABLED IT! Set CPU VDD to 1.44v. FSB = 206. Multiplier= 19.5.... VOILA, 4.0 GHz OC All Cores. COOL & Q Disabled; & Turbo Core Junk Off, of course C1E same.
  14. The Guide Bios screens look nothing like mine. Mine is Nvidia 980a chipset for AMD's. C & Q & C1E already disabled. The Overclocking portion of the Nvidia MSI NF980-65 is Called: CELL MENU. It does not have many of the features in the Bios in the Guide, plus Cell Menu on mine has many settings not shown in the guide; (ie) Nvidia Calibration. There are 3 CPU voltage related controls. I can get a 3.6GHz OC w/out Voltage change Just using higher multiplier on the Phenom II x 6 1090T. But if I adjust the Any of the 3 CPU Volt settings it won't even post. Also wierd there is no setting to let you lock down PCI-e .
