  1. i think the hub is a good idea. how is it powered? why does it need cooling? I can see why you wire your machine to it like that though. when you get home just unplug it and whack your adsl in or whatever.
  2. doh got notification of a reply thought someone wanted to sell me one!
  3. currently have an xp2200+. its too slow. Anyone got anything higher for sale? interested in anything really. just goto be fast than my current cpu. In the UK but happy to pay more for delivery from US or something. can pay paypal....and fast! Cheers in advance.
  4. edit: a WTB in the for sale section. how rude. sorry guys reposting in WTB!
  5. well...learn something new every day I didnt think I could run a higher fsb processor with lesser 333 ram. Thanks. will report when it is done.
  6. hmm ok. so it should just deal with it all on its own? sounds good to me. might grab a proc off ebay then. see how it goes. just dont want to lash out
  7. my poor old machine has lost all love from me in the last few years. just dont have the money or time to keep it up to spec. so currently have: xp2200+ (dont laugh) dfi ultra infinity mobo nf2 ultra 400 1gig pc2700 (this is the important part of teh question) ati x800pro (only reason for NOT going 64bit + pci express yet, cos this card cost me 300quid a year ago!) so. heres the question. with the pappy 2700ddr (ddr333mhz) what happens if I whip out the xp2200+ cpu and whack a 3200+ 400mhz in there? will this work right? racking my brains and cant work out wether the ram will stop the processor running @ 400mhz fsb. Cheers in advance. Lawrence.
  8. yep sorry by hub I meant a switch. wouldnt do any less. well thats the solution then. run a connection from the router/modem to a gigabit switch for the internet connection. all PC's/macs into the gigabit SWITCH. Nice one. oh and it is cat 5e, had to double check though Cheers.
  9. ok I actually have a couple of questions here. first off. cat5e cable. is it compatible with gigabit hubs? 2nd question. if I bought a gigabit hub, and plugged loads of machine into it, then had the uplink connected to an adsl modem/router. Should be configurable to work right shouldnt it? I have similar in my house (swith with machines on it, and a router for the internet). Cheers in advance.
  10. ok I have got an external usb2 hd caddy, with an 80gig seagate in it. I need to format it fat32 (to transfer some mac files) but XP will only let me format it as NTFS? how can I fix this? cheers in advance.

  13. edit: ok new issues. I got there and they had 2 extra machines to work with. a pc, windows xp. a mac OS x so they have now got a router, with a main PC connected and a main mac. i got the internet working for both of them, and sharing some items from each machine with each other. not everything though. here is one example. the pc has an external HD. I shared it. the mac can opy from it but not write to it. the PC can se everythng on the mac. I set up the spare mac as a server (it has 2 HD's). I want to share the 2nd HD in the spare mac so that both the main PC and the main mac can copy files to each other. the main mac can access everything. but hte main PC cannot see hte 2nd drive in the server mac. This is all getting rather confussing. anyone used PC MACLAN? I might as well setup an appletalk network and try to add the PC to it?
  14. ok I nede to run a 25metre cable from a macintosh G4 to a PC. There probably wont be a hub, direct cable between. question is like with 2 x PC's is a crossover cable required? or is it not possible to even do. I cant think of anything to stop it working. need it for file and broadband connection sharing. the PC has the modem. Any help would be great. Cheers.
  15. i think shortening the CPU pipes (they look a little too long) would make a fair bit of difference. but then, I am not a water cooler.
