Watercooling opinions and suggestions

21 January 2012 - 03:49 AM

Hey lads,

Basically, my mate is wanting to set up a watercooling loop in his 650D -

Posted Image

he's going to order a RS240rasa kit, and obviously another 120mm rad

He will replace all fittings with bits power compression fittings, and will be water cooling my gtx 570 and later adding another and also water cooling, using this block.

Fans:

This has been a big issue for him, but i think he's settled on gelid wing 12's.

We cant find gentle typhoons for under 25 bucks @ a decent retailer, if there are any other decent fans out there, hopefully blue ( or aesthetically pleasing )pleaseee post.

He will be replacing the Rasa kit tubing with some other tubing, thinking this tubing but it possibly will change.

He's got the cash for this, so the reality of it is not a worry , but he doesn't want to go overboard spending. If its worth noting, he will be getting an ivy bridge cpu and overclocking the beast.

Also, He is located in Australia so any changes or suggests will need to be from an Aus retailer.

Cheers for help!

EDIT: His pc is as follows

Corsair 650D
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5-B3
Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8R 8GB
EVGA GTX 570 HD
Core i5 2500k
Corsair AX 750W
Coolermaster Hyper TX3

considering a new laptop

28 March 2011 - 02:40 AM

Hey guys
as the title said, im considering a new laptop. I decided im not going to bother upgraded anything in my pc atm.
Now, im pretty much on a tight budget, of around 1.3 grand. I'm going with dell. I get a 10% discount on Dell XPS systems and 5% off Inspirion.
at the moment its between two laptops. it will primary be used for gaming/lan (l4d2, BC2, COD4, and of course, minecraft) at my mates house while also just schooling/uni stuff. i want it to last for atleast 2-3 years.
Remember, im from Australia so this will need to be in aus dollars from Dell Aus

1. XPS 15.6" (Customized it)
cpu: i7 2630m
gpu: GT540m
ram: 4gb (1x 4gb) figured i could add another 4gb if i wanted for less than what they ask.
hdd: 640gb 7200rpm - dont need anymore, have heaps of space on my desktop and portable hdd
battery: 6 cell

Total: $1,247 after 10%

2. Inspiron 15r (15.6") (cant customize)
cpu: i7 2630m
gpu: GT525m ----> worse gpu?
ram: 8gb ram (2x4gb)
hdd: 640gb 5400rpm - dont need anymore, have heaps of space on my desktop and portable hdd ---> slower hard drive
battery: 6 cell

Total: $1223 after 5%

Cheers for any help

Build/Parts guide

17 March 2011 - 07:05 PM

So some people can be unsure on system parts, while this forum does have guides on picking psu's, cases and some others. Why not one on system builds?
Buying a new system can be both exciting and daunting at the same time. Technology increases as each day passes so how do you know whats the best for you budget? or just simply would this component be better off in the trash can. Asking a community such as OCC is the best place to start as we can run through your build, picking out errors while also trying to save you some money amd giving you recommendations. But what happens when you have no grounds to start building (I.E you dont know where to start) ? Well, this thread will help you out. Not only will it give you some simple build suggestions but also links to other in-forum pages that will help pick power supplies (PSU), Cases, LCD's, the list just goes on. But wait, there is more! Further down the page, there is a list of CPU's and their sockets both from Intel and AMD. Also you will find a list of the GPUs that you would want to put your money into whether its just a standard everyday use or a heavy, hardcore gaming rig, this thread has it all.

NOTE:
- Rough prices from newegg US
- I will try my best to keep the systems updated.
- Although these are labeled as gaming, they will do just fine for other uses.

Overclocking guides (Note: Some are from Overclock.net)
The basics of overclocking (What is it?)
Overclocking socket 1366
Overlocking 2600K/1155 (with thanks to El_Capitan for sharing)
Overclocking Phenom II CPU's
NOTE 1: Black Edition (eg x2 555BE, 1090T BE ) and Extreme Editions/K series (eg 990x, 2500k) have unlocking multiplyers meaning you can just bump up the multiplier without changing the FSB
NOTE 2: Overclocking is done at your own risk, as it may void the warranty or damage your chip. It is essential that you have the right cooling before messing with the settings (Refer to CPU Cooling at the bottom)

Please post your opinions, say what you would change. Chances are I've missed something, or picked a bad part.

H50 + Scythe Ultra kaze 3000rpm

21 February 2011 - 02:36 AM

Hey guys

Me birthday is coming up soon and i figured ill get a new cooler and fans for my rig.
after looking around for a while, i quite sure about the H50. I know that the DH14 is better but i honestly dont want something that big haha :)
H50. I've heard that if you push/pull it you can get results of the h70, so i was thinking of adding Ultra Kaze 3000rpm.
Now, are there any better fans than that? I dont care about the noise level.
Is the Vantage ALC better than the H50?
i was also going to add another Air penetrator to the front of my case.
All of this will be controlled by a Sentry LXE.

Extremely sorry for the body of text :\ i just want to make sure i am buying quality parts.

Cheers

Black frame around crysis

12 February 2011 - 11:52 PM

Hey guys,
So i discovered awhile ago that my crysis 1 had a black frame around it in full screen. It never use to on my old rig (9500gt, core2duo). I have re-installed about 3 times, re-downloaded from steam 3 times and it still doesnt fix it.
Pretty much tried everything :( . I recently bought crysis warhead and i found it does the same thing. this only happens in crysis.
Im running the latest ati drivers and ccc version 10.10

running a i5 760 @ 3.8 and 6870 at stock.

any information will help :(

I read that this is a bug in the ati driver that hasnt been fixed in 2 years. My friend has a identical rig to mine and it doesnt happen to his at all. he has same drivers.

cheers

EDIT: Sorry if its in the wrong section.
also forgot to mention, i have re-installed the drivers a few times. it also happened on older gen drivers
