need help with PSU/PSU wattages
B00cup replied to B00cup's topic in Cases, Power Supplies and Modding
I actually found that article after I posted my previous comment You're right, and I'm very appreciative of the answers I've received! Power supplies have always been a veiled subject for me. I was really just concerned I'd fry my system, or something terrible, because I don't understand everything. I think I'm going to take the advice and eventually swap my PSU for a better brand. Now it comes down to finding a new power supply. Based on my build, is there anything else I need to have besides the 4x6 PCI-E connectors? -

The HEC psu does have 4x6 pin PCI-E connectors like the others you suggested. The HEC model also has 4 +12V rails where the XFX core and the Corsair enthusiast only have a single +12V rail. -

Well apparently newegg boasts its super efficiency rating at 87%. It might not have a label certification but that's still better, right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339035 -
Specs --------- case: cooler master HAF932 mainboard: msi 790fx-gd70 memory: 8GB (2x2x2x2) OCZ amd black edition ddr3 sdram 1600 proc: amd phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz video: 2x XFX radeon HD 5850 in crossfire psu: hec XP1080 800W continuous modular active pfc --------- Hey everyone, I need some help with my system and its PSU. I have a problem where my mother board died. I found out it could have been from either the power supply or the processor. I rma'd the processor and motherboard already and I want to make sure that the power supply really isn't the problem either. So I thought if the power supply is the problem it has to be something with the wattage and rails to different areas. I'm wondering if the power supply I have now is good enough or under powering my system which caused the problem. Also, should I need to replace it, what PSU should take its place? I appreciate any advice or tips as well! Thanks!

Hey everyone, My newer computer isn't putting out any video signal. At first I thought it was the video cards, but at one point I turned the computer back on to test it and one of the case fans didn't start spinning or light up so I think it might be a motherboard issue. Here's how the problem started. I was running a game on it when it froze. I restarted it and it froze up again, but this time it wouldn't let me shut it down. I switched the power supply off and waited a minute to turn it back on. When I did, no signal was going out to the monitor. I changed the cable and switched the cable position but nothing changed. I checked for overheating but couldn't find anything. Anyone got any ideas as to what's going on?

I'm sure best of the best isn't within a 2.5k budget . I was planning to try and get around 4ghz on my AMD 965 so I think the V8 should keep it cool enough. Thanks for the input!

I'm not sure If I can agree with those of you who are saying the V6 is better. Even the reviews on this site show that the V8 has the cooler temperatures... V8: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cm_v8/4.htm V6: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cooler_master_v6gt/4.htm I guess there would need to be an actual side by side comparison to get the most accurate temperature differences, but still.

I really want to share the mod that I found. I think that it looks really nice and I think that it would be a great mod for anyone else who is considering modding the V8. I'm not sure if it's okay to post youtube videos on here? Can someone clarify for me? I didn't see anything against it in the rules but I just want to double check. I've had forums before outlaw it for some reason

Oh sweet! That may be what I need. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! No I haven't purchased either, the V6 is very good though. The only thing is the price. I can get the V8 for around $59.99 with a $10 rebate.

I haven't actually purchased one yet, but still plan on doing so. The leds should be attached to the fan. I just found a great modding video for it that covers just about what I need. The only thing I still want to know is what kind of fan to replace it with?

I'm trying to keep the color of my rig uniform and was wondering if it were possible to mod the V8 cpu cooler by replacing the red led fan with a blue led fan? Has anyone tried to mod it already? If anyone has I would appreciate any bit of info on how to, if I can, what fan to replace it with, etc. Thanks!

Need help finding a PSU please!
B00cup replied to B00cup's topic in Cases, Power Supplies and Modding
I've talked with some sales reps and a few other people and I think I'm going to go with one of the Corsair psu's most likely one of the HX series. Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction in regards to how much power I would need for my system! Will post pictures of my rig when I get the rest of the hardware! Thanks again! -
So, I've been researching and looking for a good PSU for the new system I'm building. I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to the technical jargon so bear with me and try not to laugh too hard ;D. I haven't put anything together just yet, but here are the specs of the hardware I have and what I'm still waiting to get: Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 (Blue) Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition Memory: OCZ AMD Black Edition 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Hard Drives: WD Velociraptor 150GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 10000rpm; Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm SATA 3.0gb/s Graphics: 2 x XFX ATI Radeon 5850 1GB 256-bit DDR5 Crossfire OS: Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit I'm planning on over clocking and I think I'm going to go with a 1000W PSU, but I just don't know which to choose. I keep seeing people point to Antec right away or Corsair or something else and it's starting to get frustrating. I think I find a decent one and then read too many reviews saying otherwise.... As for budget I'm building this whole system on $2,000 and I've decided I don't want to spend more than $160 on the power supply. Suggestions of what to buy, tips on what to look for, anything at all will be appreciated! Please help! Thanks!
