#2102587 Gentlemen, I give you the sexiest car.

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 29 September 2013 - 04:39 PM

I don't like it. That engine just has WAY too much power to be of any use. Looks are nice, I just wish it had a cowl hood.

You sir are a wuss! There is no such thing as to much power. Only those that cannot harness it!

There's no such thing as too much power, but there is such thing as a car not being set up for using that much power, and from the looks of it, this thing isn't ready for 600+ rwhp. Maybe it can put it down in a straight line, but it doesn't seem like it could use very much of that around a corner.

Wait a second... hold up.... since when did you care? aint that the argument waco threw at you about miata vs z-car?  lol.

Looks cool, but i agree with puck, buy a classic and drop the vette engine in it. Cheaper(could be), cooler, more fun and more satisfying.

#2099570 Military Action in Syria

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 01 September 2013 - 05:03 PM

I'm probably going to take a load of grief for this, but i am open to hearing new info and different opinions. I am rather inexperienced in this area due to age and previous lack of interest.

What exactly did we achieve in iraq? in iran? Sure we took out a few AL-queda big-wigs and such, but we made one huge mess. What makes us think we will do any differently this time? Maybe we should get our country in order before we go bust someone elses wide open.

And, consider this; if mexico bust open (as well it could) into a civil war between the druggies and army or some similar lineup, who would be expected to step in. Why? Well for one we are next door neighbors. It would be the same if something went down in Canada. So why aren't any of Syria's neighbors stepping in? I'd say if anyone's the responsibility is theirs. Besides half the rebels come from those countries anyway.(exaggerated figure probably)

So why aren't they? Well lets see; Egypt: screwed out of the scene for now, Israel; otherwise occupied, Lebanon; too worried about Israel, Turkey; too busy locking down their borders, Iraq and Iran; they know that screwing around in another country brings nothing but trouble, Saudi Arabia; possibly the only nation capable of doing anything and they are too smart and too rich to bother.

Soo why do the US feel we have to? IS it because of how successful a track record we have? Is it because we have nothing else to do but kill innocents and waste tax payer money? Is it because we have troops eager to deploy to another sandy hell?

No. Wait, so why are we considering it? So our president can save some face and potentially make a name for HIMSELF?

Let them solve their own problems. Civil war was what it took for us to make up our internal differences enough to build a strong nation, so why shouldn't it work for them? It does mean lots of death and pain, but why multiply that needlessly?

If anyone gets involved it ought to be the local people who know the situation, the culture, and the place.

And to take a completely different approach, right now we have Muslims fighting Muslims, what happens when the 'infidels' join in? Won't both sides be obliged to beat the tar out of us?

Crosman Venom Nitro. Gas piston, break barrel. Can't wait to shoot it. 4x 32 scope.

LOL... poor city boy, needs a scope on a .22 :P

I only have it because it came with the scope. I'm also thinking of returning it and spending an extra hundred for a Ruger 10/22. :D

And it only came with a scope cause you ordered one. :P

Do it, totally worth the money, those are sweet little guns.

#2084279 Boot Dryer Mod: Finally a good use for vantec tornado case fans.

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 10 April 2013 - 06:16 PM

Sorry about the delay.

Here are some quick before and after pics. I am currently butchering an old walkman for its power jack and cleaning up all those fan wires. A wood burning iron make a decent soldering iron in a squeeze.

#2080255 Refurbished HDDs; What's your stance?

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 14 March 2013 - 10:30 AM

I doubt that a hard drive ever really gets refurbished.  More likely is that it's an unused return being sold as a refurb.  They usually have the warranty, so hell yes!

^This, often these drives were returned and never used and may be retested rigorously!

As sketchy as a refurbished HDD can be, I would definitely steer clear of the WD Green series regardless.

Whats wrong with green drives? they serve their purpose well, if it doesn't suit your needs then fine but don't see anything wrong with the drives themselves.

Used/refurb hdd's are fine by me. Usually do a pc-check on a drive if its used though just to be sure..

Yeah Green and Barracuda LP drives are just fine, you'll never actually see the slower spindle speed being a major drawback unless all you do is transfer LARGE files (and even so, my LP performs VERY admirably in this regard and it performs very well even though it's *only* 5900RPM)

Actually, post Seagate and WD takeover HDD's don't seem to be fairing as well. It seems the new models coming from Seagate and WD are of lesser quality than they were even 2 years ago. This is from what I've seen on forums though but it seems across the various forums I belong to, more people are having issues with new HDD's than they used to of course it could just be that I notice the threads about the issues more now than before but with Samsung out of the equation, no one has anything to try to best in terms of quality because Samsung's HDD's were as good as it got for quality right up until they were dissolved by Seagate.

Or....it's that the vast population of happy customers are staying silent and those who got the bad eggs are making a stink openly and publicly.

I wouldn't be on here promoting what great luck I have with all my HDDs/SSDs just because but if I had a harddrive or SSD die I may take the time to rant about it. This was the whole problem with OCZ SSDs, they were almost always the best deal for an SSD, TONS of people bought them then "a lot" of people complained that they died and were crap. I have two of them and they work perfectly and have never given me trouble (on my Agility 3 right now).

I thinks thats it mainly, people only take time to review if the product is worthless. If it runs they slap it in and forget it.

#2080053 Advance Folding Question

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 12 March 2013 - 11:44 AM

1) to see if Titan is supported yet 2) does folding support FP64 or is it stuck in 32 that mostly all cards outside Telsa are stuck with . if they only optimized for FP64 or a limited number of threads than Titan wouldn't be faster than say a 680.

I don't know so that's why I'm asking . Also if someone knows where I could find the technical documents explaining folding so I could find the answer that way.

You know, the easiest way to find out would be to head over to the folding forums and ask. The staff are around almost all the time to answer technical questions.

#2077539 OCC Xmas Contest unboxing thread

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 20 February 2013 - 06:00 PM

Consider this spot reserved... for when my illusive case finally arrives.
Case arrived Monday.
Was not expecting it to come in a retail box.
Whats inside?
Securely Packaged, Well done Tt.
Drum roll....
Sweet case. Now lets get it filled.
Side by side with old case(note both sides of the new case are removed.) Look at all the dust in there.
I started by stripping it down and routing all the fan cables..
And i discovered a rather irritating design flaw.
Anyone see it? You have to remove the front fan to access the quick tool-less 3.5 bay... It slides out to the front, not the back. there is actually a tab there that stops it going backwards. Brain fart someone.
I forgot to take any pics of the hardware going in, but here is the cable management mess i had to route.
Let me step back a sec, i did take one pic from putting the hard ware in. And it highlights another problem, and I'm not sure if the fault lies with Asus or Tt. My mobo I/O plate did not fit, it had to take pliers and crip all four sides drastically to fit. I say drastically, probably about 4mm. Still, unacceptable and annoying. And while trying to force the plate in before crimping it, it popped and i buried the corner tab in my finger.
I bled like a stuck pig...
Anyway, almost done now. And i realized i missed something.
Almost forgot to put the CPU fan back on.
And thats all the pics i have at the moment, will get some finished pics taken and up soon.

#2076998 Happy Valentine's Day

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 15 February 2013 - 07:45 PM

As someone who also feels a long term relationship isn't for him and has felt many of the same frustrations I have refined my stance on many things.

When it comes to friends you can't always expect them to be there for you.  It's just not going to happen.  They are going to let you down.  Just like you are going to let them down.  On a basic level, ya you are using each other ...even if its just to stamp out your current boredom.  But what's wrong with that?  If both of you gain more than you lose and your friend makes you happy, tell me how/why it really truly honestly matters that you used each other to be happy?

There is absolutely no way you can live without "using" someone/thing.  Even if you move out in the wild and become a hermit in the woods, you would still be using mother nature to suit your needs.  "No man is an island."  Found that link when googling to see who the quote belonged to.

The goal shouldn't be to find someone who won't use you, but to find someone who complements (not praise, but balances) you.  For example, I have a friend in VA who felt the same way as you and she felt she had no "friends", everyone is a "colleague" that can't be trusted.  Even though I no longer live in D.C. we're still friends and share information only friends would share. :)   Another example... I have a good friend who moved in from Cali to use us for training.  He's trained in martial arts for many years and is quite adept but to take it to the next level he felt he needs to train with us - he says it all the time that is why he moved out here.  He's anti-social in many ways (he's never even been on a date) so in your definition a huge red flag to stay away from.  I call him a good friend because we share a lot of the same interests, a lot of the same view points on life and we flat out just get along.   It's a symbiotic relationship, not a parasitic one.

It's not easy finding a true friend. I know a lot of people but would only call about 4-5 friends.  There are people I hang out with more so than my friends but it doesn't mean I would say they're my friend.   Out loud I will call them a friend because that is social etiquette but I wouldn't put the same trust in them I would a friend or go to the same lengths that I would for a friend.  It's always best to keep people at a distance but you should never be closed off.   I really like the Yin Yang philosophy.  You cannot have good without bad.  You can't always be soft or always hard.  There has to be a balance.  If you think of friendships/relationships as Take only, sure they are gonna fail.  Some days it may feel like you are always giving, but if you found a true friendship some days it may feel you are the one doing all the taking.   When it feels balanced out you probably found yourself a true no kidding friend - hang onto them!

thats all nice and stuff but if all 5 ''true friends'' abandon you, you see things differently,

experience in this kind of thing is the key here and in my case it was nothing special to begin with.

i had a friend who i knew 15 years and were really close, and nothing could stand in our way but once i move 50km (35~miles which is nothing) from home because i was going to live on my own they didnt contact me on how i was doing or anything and then eventually never hear from them again, it makes you see things differently.

this was just 1 out of 5 friends who did this to me and well, that changes alot on who you are and who you are going to trust or not.

hell even my father did this to me and it makes you a different person if you have experience alot on a short amount of time.

thats just how it is and i base my view on things based on my experience, like everyone else does.

mine was more negative then others but then you can see how people truly are, if you dont want to see it, thats good for you, but the harder you will fall once that times comes that someone betrayes you, it will happen, you only dont know when that will be. but when it is that time, you will realise that my view on life and people isnt all that bad and that in the end i was right on how to view people for who they really are.

Tell me something bud, if i pick up a crate of eggs at the store and find a few cracked ones in it. Do i assume that the others are going to crack the second i close my eyes, or do i recognize that stuff happens and discount those few broken eggs. Same way with people, i meet a few jerks, should i automatically assume that everyone is a jerk? And when you think of the size of the egg crate in question(the world) even a few hundred bad eggs is not a fair representation of the crate-full.

Maybe an example that would hit closer to home, your a graphic designer of some sort ain't you? What if i went through all the work you ever did and found the worst piece of junk you ever made, and then advertised for you with it, billed it as your portfolio piece or whatever. That would give a real bad impression huh? Even though we both knew you could do a lot better, but unfortunately all those people who i showed the piece to would come away thinking that you were a worthless artist. Same way with people, just cause you seem to meet all uncaring jerks doesn't mean that the human race as a whole is made up of uncaring jerks.

Oh and on 3 ^ even if you don't plan on getting kids you can't make me believe you don't ever want to 'get some'. lol

#2071871 Truck forum? Need some help.

Posted by SpeedCrazy on 12 January 2013 - 06:02 PM

Hey Y'all,

I'm wondering if any of y'all can recommend a good forum where i can get some help with my Nissan 720 ST 4x4 ('85).

I've been kinda looking but i guess occ set the standard too high, most of the places i look i get knee deep in a thread and find the jerks.

I'm needing some general advice and some more specific advice, such as the vacuum monster under the hood has several dead end hoses, well they don't go anywhere but they aren't dead ends they are open. And i think my carb needs cleaned out. Lift and tire advice. Fairly general but its easier if the helper has experience with similar vehicles.

For those interested:
